When Sazh starts talking about the possibility of suicide in Sunleth Waterscape, Vanille becomes very tense. Any person would start to worry, but if we remember that Vanille herself literally decided to return to Pulse to turn into Cie'th and die there (because of this, she ended up on the train at the beginning of the game), it becomes clear that for her, Sazh's "reasoning" is an opportunity to look at herself from the outside, just as Hope's behavior is an opportunity for Lightning to look at herself from the outside, just as Vanille's behavior is an opportunity for Sazh to stop thinking dark thoughts even on the level of possibilities.

In the context of this idea of heroes reflecting each other like mirrors, thanks to which they get the opportunity to look at themselves from the outside, Serah's words in the dialogue with Vanille on the beach acquire maybe a little bit of an additional meaning: to look at things, including oneself, from the outside, from afar, may be very healthy. But Serah adds to this formula, that you don’t need to constantly keep your distance, that you need to step back and understand the situation/yourself from the outside in order to come back and solve it. The point is that many characters get a chance to see themselves from the outside in XIII, and this becomes a favorable condition for their reunion with loved ones.

In the context of this formula by Serah, it is probably also worth remembering that the heroes came up with a somewhat complete plan to save Cocoon not on Cocoon, but looking at it from the outside - while on Pulse. At this point it's like a recurring motif in the story. CI NE MA.

>It's almost like....they actually did know what they were doing....huh...
It's almost like the game is very fragrant and conceptually dense, but certain problems in development ruined many things. It is a known fact that the script of XIII was rewritten many times. Production hell never benefits the game.
