I got coerced into getting FFXII:TZA on steam, but it is showing me the Xbox mappings instead of the duelshock 4 mappings. I seen some fellow retard in the discussions on steam offer a fix and while I'm sure it works my DS4 doesn't get picked up in the game when I do that because DS4 on Win10 is fucking magic or some shit. I'm typically not PC retarded but just getting this faggot controller to work for the KH series was a ball ache I'm too nervous to try and repair it and go through trying to install drivers and all sorts of other shit because god hates me in particular in this matter. JRPGs are more like visual novel "storybooks" with small degrees of customization, usually mild to moderate compared to CRPGs. Honestly, they're kinda like guilty pleasure movies or something. I like JRPGs, but they're always somewhat cringey. Basically pop-junkfood or some such thing. Usually. Some are very, very good, but the best ones paradoxically seem to offer some of the least amount of customization.

CRPGs and WRPGs are, imo, massively autistic things that lose themselves in their systems, for better or for worse. You don't play a CPRG for anything about the story, you play it to mess with the systems and customizations. They're two completely different genres for a reason.

Nope. Nomura began mishandling Cloud's character with Kingdom Hearts. Then again with Advent Children, and if anything Advent Children seems to have retroactively solidified Cloud's character as a "zuru zuru", which he really wasn't before. And now we've got Remake where we get Advent Children Cloud again, even though that's not who he was in OG VII. It is certainly revisionist to say that Cloud was never emo, or that Cloud in his later depictions like AC somehow betray his character traits of FFVII. Cloud was always emo brooding by lonesome. Play the game again, or maybe watch the Lifestream scene again. He acted that way as a child. Just because he says "let's mosey" like a dweeb one time near the ending, doesn't mean he's not still in emotional turmoil and struggling to open himself up. That is what AC's story is about. It was a continuation not a retcon, and people who still shitpost AC nearly 20 years later are just embarrassing.

Considering the fact that Cloud and Squall do not act similarly in their games nor do they act similarly in Kingdom Hearts, it's always bothered me why people constantly repeat this headcanon take. I'm sure you don't know this but artists typically don't like to copy+paste other peoples/their own old work. Copying Cloud 1:1 from his old original drawing just is not interesting for most creatives who are in charge of adapting something new and actually selling it.

Nomura has changed the details and shape of Cloud's hair countless times already himself. Artists want to craft their own new unique works as much as they possibly can. They are defined by THEIR work, after all. A Final Fantasy fan, modifying Cloud's hair by hand to be exactly the same shape as his original portrait can only happen because a fan is doing it for free. It just isn't that interesting conceptually to create that for an artist who actually gets paid to be a real artist. They want to make Cloud on their own.

The party in FFVIII suffer greatly compared to the focus on Squall/Rinoa. In XIII the party all have their own greater characterizations arcs and motivations. FFVIII is a more traditional JRPG by design of course but it was the first 3D FF to really rock the boat with experimentation and breaking outside of the JRPG mold. FFVIII is the "experimental JRPG" progenitor to FFXIII just as much as FFX was.

Yes, for sure I was reminded of FFXIII while playing E33, there's no question. Third person shooter camera turn based JRPG through gorgeous, mostly linear environments. Slow walking with exaggerated hip sway on the female characters to the tune of tremendous pianos and strings. There are tangible references to FFXIII, Verso's default game mechanics deals "Light" damage and he has skills named after XIII terms like 'Paradigm Shift' and 'Blitz'. I saw many others say the same thing about E33, often when they would discredit the game, calling the levels hallways or that the gameplay is monotonous with it's fight/cutscene/walk/cutscene/fight/walk loop.

Though I think the examples you've posted aren't all the best, there's definitely Final Fantasy/Hamauzu/Uematsu/Shimomura influences across E33 music whether it's from FFX or FFXIII or FFXV and beyond. In reality, I think it's just a little bit of synchronicity, since there's no way to know how many video games the composer has played. But creating a video game project that exemplifies these different artistic mediums, the sight/sound synthesis, melodramatic stageplay storytelling and the emotional profundity that it champions so well can all lead to completely coincidental similarities occurring across works.

I think the pacing in VIII can be a pretty big downside at points, it's a bit too long with too little of important events, character growth or substantial information for long stretches of time. The pacing of XIII is actually pretty damn good all things considered, with the way it's focused on the individuals and the circumstances less so than it is a massive world full of cryptic shit to uncover and justify the existence of a strategy guides. To each his own there.

Vanille acts as a mirror for Sazh here in this scene, showing him the absolute inadequacy of his suicidal thoughts voiced by him in Sunleth Waterscape. Expedition 33 is a really fuckin great game, you'll love it. It very much fills up a Final Fantasy/Persona/JRPG shaped hole while also being it's own thing that stands shoulder to shoulder with it's influences. We talked a little bit about E33 earlier. But after finishing that, I've been on a Persona kick recently and not FF since I've never played them. I'll return to the modded Rebirth playthrough soon enough, and maybe finish up the IX and X Steam playthroughs too. Once I beat P3Reload.

For me, no I don't really think it was sadly. I really liked Jill a lot at first too. So much time is spent together, but so little of the scenes were tangible for me. Really good potential on paper, kinda like the game. It's all been written down well enough and they look great. They have decent chemistry together when it comes to the voice work. The connection could have been a lot more fun, meaningful and interesting to see play out inside of gameplay though, instead of just across cutscenes.

You know, Jill could be a playable and a meaningful party member, with her own fighting style, equipment and upgrade paths. Then you could have all out combo synergy attacks together, maybe Jill would heal you on command and revive you in battle, or give you buffs. Different kinds of gameplay integrations of their shared bond helps sell romance/bonds a lot further than just lip service.

Imagine Jill could Cover and take a mortal blow for you, pushing you out of the way of a death and taking the KO herself. Then you actually have to use Phoenix Down or Raise to bring her back to the fight. She could unlock new special ultimate moves or a weapon by progressing and completing her character side quest. You know how it goes, an actual RPG with RPG designed content. That's not what it is, and so their built for an RPG character relationship feels completely hollow without a single gameplay mechanic. You don't feel Jill there by Clive's side one single time during gameplay, despite her accompanying you so often.

Like the game itself they're bland and 7/10 ish, can't reach their true potential in the slightest because there's no mechanic application of the bond. Too much padding of run time with dialogue, and not enough core meat to sink your teeth into. They can only raise above total mediocrity through very stylish and expensively produced audio visual presentation and their sporadic moments of spectacle they get (nude scenes and the few times Jill does something)

No way anon, don't do that to yourself. It's a really great game, and it's worth it to pay attention to the enemy attacks and overcome them. If the enemy is killing you too quickly, just come back to that fight later if you can or grind a little bit and try again. Pro tip, LISTEN for the attacks, don't just watch the tricky animations. You'll thank me later once you notice it. Also, you could check this mod out instead of switching to easy mode.
