it's not hard to see, making it easy to parse just wasn't their goal
they wanted to make it flashy and simple, which is in some ways related to being clear, but not identical, and whenever they had to choose between making information clear or making it look more exciting for stream watchers that have no real idea what they're seeing beyond some attacks happen and life bars go down they chose the second one.

Fair, "really" is overselling it, but it honestly does a good job of making things that are important easy to see at a glance and keeping the UI nice and clean. The tension and burst meters change color significantly when they fill or hit breakpoints, unlike Strive, all the temporary UI elements align nicely and don't overlap, like you can have a 2 digit combo counter, 5 "Just!"s and a "Counter" all on screen at the same time and none of it covers anything else while Strive puts the Counter thing on top of the combo counter which itself goes on top of the giant Positive triangle in the corner, it's just a mess.
The only thing making Xrd hard to follow visually is that there's a lot going on that you need to understand, but if you do it's not hard at all. The only thing making Strive easy is that there's not much going on, but as soon as something complicated happens, like put Asuka on screen or do some shit with Faust items and the visual "clarity" falls apart because it wasn't designed with clarity as goal, just simplicity.
