>Does this mean Engage had a negative reception?
Overwhelming, yes. I would say "I would argue that it did" but the numbers when you look at them are actually really shocking and beyond arguing.
This is mainly because it had a bigger launch year than Valentia, Awakening and Fates but the worst second year by far. That only happens if a game gets a really awful reputation. The fact even a 5 year old 3H was outperforming it proves this isn't just a "Switch is dying" thing either.
~24k copies globally in its second year is genuinely abysmal for a Fire Emblem game, I don't have the numbers for the pre-Awakening entries but it is likely worse than most of those game's second year too. The drop-off is insanely. Oh right and that means the claim of seeing a >95% decline in sales in its second year is true too. It's actually more like >98%. And no this isn't normal at all. Three Houses for example sold 2.58 million in 2019 despite coming out mid year, and then was at around 3.5 million by the end of 2020, meaning its sales decline was like 60%.

So overall >>532173693 wasn't being entirely truthful, but the biggest liar is Raul by far. Engage's long term sales have been so bad it's hard to describe just how bad they've been. It's a clear indicator the game was nosediving post-March 2023 and had a poisonous word of mouth among people who did play it. Obviously the game still has fans but it's really had to understate how negative its reputation is more broadly. Is its negative reputation a bit unfair and overblown? I'd say so, because while being a flawed game I don't think it deserves a >98% decline in sales. But I'm just stating objectively what the numbers are and how most people received it.

tl;dr I wasted an hour typing this shit out and most people probably won't read it but I just thought it would be better if people had ACTUAL sales figures with evidence behind them rather than just saying shit. It exposes liars easily.
