pop stars gotta stick to their image, and working with avant-garde producers messes that up. It’s extra work, and those weird, complex sounds don't fit the usual pop format for radio.
some artists like Björk or FKA twigs are have done it tho. i guess madonna did too, was it william orbit producing her stuff back in 97? not an IDM staple, but that was pushing it for mega pop star back then. don't expect a taylor-swiftt-autechre collaboration anytime soon.
