Colt Officer, Defender, or Compact, etc they call them many different things since the officer and defender are Colt trademarks.
Getting a reliable one is a little tricky, since how small the gun is getting the timing/springs/tolerances right means that cheap ones likely don’t work 100% of the time. It’d be close to 800-1000 dollars I’d trust my life with it - after shooting it extensively to make sure it works.
S&W pro series 3 inch
Ruger compact

Colt Officer/Defender
Detonics Combat Master
People say if you used the larger commander slide on the officer frame it would be more reliable. These would be called CCOs, conceal carry officers, or whatever the fuck. People also just call these compacts like Wilson Combat, Nighthawk calls theirs the Talon III or Predator III.
I would never trust a 1911 out of the box with my life, you have to shoot it to verify your combination of mags, gun, and ammo all work together. I’ve purchased 3 Nighthawks, incredibly expensive, and they’ve all had a major or minor issue with reliability that I had to fix or send back to them to fix.
