Valve is an interesting company because they do genuine good like all the things you've said, is helping to advance/popularize Linux gaming, create a solid gaming handheld device that's also essentially a laptop computer at a great price and other things no corporation in their right minds would ever have the interest or skill to do. But then they also do evil shit like trailblazing cosmetic microtransaction hell, move gaming to matchmaking-based live service bullshit (CS:GO/CS2 technically allow you to run your own servers but there's no point to it), and getting adults/children addicted to virtual gambling with skinnerbox crates, a digital storefront you can use to sell cosmetics from said crates (of which a cut of the money goes back to them), pushing the gambling mentality on to their audience harder with the esports scene, and keeping a blind eye on 3rd party casinos that let player bet even more on cosmetics or sell them for cash which further encourage players to use Valve's gambling services.

It's an awful ecosystem that makes Valve beyond wealthy and nobody says anything because they funnel a portion of this ill-earned money back into moving gaming mountains.
