Finally some story advice that I expect to ruffle someone's feathers given how controversial my villainous BunBun idea was.
Before I talk about that, since I've given up on my short fic I'll just say what I was going to change to address criticism: I'd have BunBun, before the Lightners fall, need to go downstairs and have a wound stitched up by a surgeon operating a sewing machine. The wound was caused by the Outlaw, who sees BunBun as just a toy and who revealed in the fic she because I think it's Sadie experimented on Bearing to figure out how the Dark World works, removing a button eye and tearing open his back in the Light World then recreating the fountain to observe the changes. BunBun gets injured taking a hit from Kanako during the chapter, returns to the surgeon and the surgeon Stroggifies BunBun. Now BunBun's transformation isn't voluntary but is still the result of actions taken because of its encounter with the Outlaw and the forbidden knowledge it gained.

Back to Axis: I think Axis should be 'killed' in a violent playthrough. Much like Deltarune has Jackenstein sacrifice himself with nobody to catch his fall, or nobody stands up against King, or nobody helps Susie find Tenna to patch him up, circumstances should force Axis to make a sacrifice that could be avoided if the denizens of the two Dark Worlds were more willing to help you.

Now, Axis is a party member likely to return at some point, hence the quotation marks around 'killed.' Chujin does his best to repair Axis, but ultimately just has to make a new Axis toy. In the Dark World this is Axis Model 015, and he has no memories of Kanako from the Light or Dark World. As long as there's dialogue that reminds the party that the original Axis is lost, it emotionally fits a death without gameplay costs, like Galuf's fate in FFV.

I once again acknowledge my ideas reach for dark places emotionally and it may chafe against others think DRY should be, but it's what I would do
