The bad writing of this arc all but proves it. The writer gave her a really weak motive, really weak and inconsequential "sacrifice", and now they are panicking a little because they know that no matter WHAT they do, the reveal will be underwhelming and nonsensical. So they are trying their hardest to make the audience forget the sacrifice even existed.
