His last serious fight He got kicked in the balls in front of the entire tournament by by some assuming old man nerd dropped and humiliated after bragging about how he went through a training arc in the mountains.

Before that Tien humiliated him and broke his leg again at the world tourney in front of all his friends and love interest. Now he is the only one to actually die to a little green creature being outlasted by someone who's only move was a suicide attack

Such blatant abuse by the writer feels like a running gag even though it's played completely serious.
