This is where my dad is from. Russell Kansas. Small town in rural middle America. The biggest industry is the glutton plant that will start new workers out at $21 an hour with frequently available overtime. They will hire anyone for labor no experience necessary. You can easily make $50k a year at that job and competition is low. You can make a 30 minute commute to Hays and find a higher paying job over there if you want. The town has a McDonalds, A&W, a Sonic, and a few small restaurants. You can buy a small shitty starter home very affordable by yourself and if you get married (not hard since half the town are at least 2nd or 3rd cousins) you can quickly save up and buy a bigger nicer house. If you’re a nurse or architect or something hard to get out there then you’re automatically one of the richest people in town. This is what your parents grew up in. This is what they stole from you.
