We walk.
I've never had a car or a license. At the beginning of the month I go to the store and buy all my core food items: cans of chicken, pasta sauce, pasta, rice, beans, cheese, flour, butter, root vegetables, and maybe a few other things.
If I want fresh meat or vegetables I go buy them the day I plan on using them, or the day before.
If I want a drink or a snack I walk to the store and buy it the day of.
The grocery store is only about a mile away from my house. That's where I buy all my actual groceries. If I want a snack, I'll walk the 6 blocks to the convenience store.
This time of year it's really nice so I like walking. In the winter time I might take the bus, but only if it's raining. If it's snow, I'll walk. I only ever take the bus if it's raining, and only if I plan on getting at least two bags of groceries. If it's only one bag, I'll just take my umbrella.
