I don't know how much you've seen the program or to how far you've seen it, because the sisters' approach comes into conflict: to concentrate until enclosure their talents until being the ONLY thing of their character (flanderization) or givin' them another aspect that could be risk by off their persona too; in other words is crossing between extremes.

But returning to the subject, within the approach it also reflects the interest and disinterest at various levels of the writing towards the characters by the staff given certain influences and affecting the character and development... With the case of Luan, there have been varied and shocking contrasts from her root talent (comedy) to 'compensating' her with culinary (talent shared with his father) and theater...

I'll end with the added pic, which is a great episode where she shines as both character and sister without trivializing her talent as the only aspect; and it's where the series hasn't been careful to foster that aspect of the first seasons: family relationships.
