I just watched Hitchcock's Psycho for the first time. It was pretty good. Maybe as a zoomer it didn't have the shock and awe factor for me as it did for people who watched it earlier, because I have seen a lot of shlocky slasher films with similar premises, which I now see as derivatives of Psycho. What did strike me as surprising was reading about the initial reactions of the audience. The blood shown in the shower scene and the repeated shots of Marion in lingerie were considered scandalous in 1960 when the movie came out, but modern films routinely have far more smut and gore than this film. Shows how audience tastes and moral standards have changed since then.
