As an idort who plays wow and xiv if you give a shit about a consistent release schedule with variety blizzard basically always has square mogged to an embarassing degree
the extent of how everything in warcraft is basically evergreen is a testament to it's longevity - regardless if you give a fuck about the story or raid slop content or not, it feels like an actual video game. you are allowed to not want theme park mario party content at all times but it's important to keep people interested in some tangible way. even when wow is rehashing the same dungeons for the 50th time they still try to change them in little bits to keep it interesting. xiv would quite literally never break this mold ever because they are so afraid of 1.0 it basically has them whipped. and this is coming from someone who last played wow in legion, played years upon years of xiv in stormblood doing every single bit of content imaginable and only play wow recently because i was legitimately so bored of dawntrail and the end of endwalker patches
>story in wow
nobody cares
>class design
arguable slop but it has a healthy balance between optimization and difficulty as hard as you want it to be, they literally put a one button rotation for the babies like how people use slothcombo and bossmod to cheat theirs too
>random side shit like pet battles, cosmetic grinding, the whole mountsmogcheevo meme
literally no reason why xiv can't copy this. it is only the square enix stifling of some abstract combination of budget, incompetence, or lack of manpower in all their infinite money to work with on their golden goose
xiv more than anything refuses to buck the mold. i think the real reason why wow sticks in the cultural zeitgeist for so long is variety, experimentation, trying shit that will probably be panned as it always does but ANYTHING is better than what square does in my opinion. i will still play both (wow probably a bit less) religiously but xiv as a whole just needs something more
