Klein was not only able to react and put his arms up to block a direct punch from a hunter, but it also didn't put a hole through him or even break his arms, and clown doesn't gain superhuman defenses. It's either a retcon or bad translation and I'd assume the latter because you're severely underestimating how strong attacking at the speed of sound is and how that couldn't possibly be a sequence 9 ability.
