The pacing slowed down and that's good, it ain't perfect but I'll take it. I assume it'll be more in line with where it's supposed to be going forward now that they hit that 3 episode mandate the director mentioned.

I see why they wanted to get to this point in 3 episodes - they want to showcase beyonders abilities as a sort of "Look how cool this will look when Klein is stronger" because trying to rope people in with talk of bread and meat pies just won't work on zoomies.
I don't agree with the decision, but I understand it.

My main criticism now is definitely that they need to stop with the masturbatory animation-only changes like Leonard blinking (I assume that was an illusion, but Midnight Poet shouldn't have illusions in it's repertoire), same with Dally teleporting in this episode.
It still looks very pretty, and I think the hate on the Chinese dub is a little overblown.
I'm very glad they showed Leonard still lucid during the puppet scene- They're clearly very aware of what they need to show and what they've cut is deliberate and not random. You can disagree with it all you want but at least understand that they had constraints.

I don't know why people seethe about the chinoid dub, it sounds fine to me. I know it's not as easy on the ears as japanese but I find it quite listenable. What is REALLY pissing me off is the fucking subs. It's like they didn't bother to translate them properly and just did it word for word from the chinese so half the sentances are missing conjugations and other important english language shit because china doesn't do that and just stacks words after each other. Reading it makes my brain hurt and I'm having to put way too much effort into trying to understand what is presumably a quite complex plot, this will filter the fuck out of normans.

Anyone can get the minor stuff, but the primary ingredients might as well be gold. Initially I thought the fight scene was decent, but now that I think about it some more, it was another piece of retarded anime-only shit. The clown styling on everyone despite Dunn also being sequence 7 yet functionally being identical to Leonard in what he contributed to the fight was clearly more canon-disrespecting crap for tiktok clips. And this was supposedly what they risked everything to showcase.

The clown's sequence 7 showcase was faithful in terms of power scaling. The anime on the other hand has been gassing up sequence 9 and 8 powers in the earlier 2 episodes which is why it's now feeling unclear what the scaling is supposed to be like.

At sequence 9 and 8 beyonders are just normal humans (or physically enhanced to peak athletic normal humans) with some small scale magic powers, which is why everyone was shooting at the clown instead of throwing laser beams at him. At sequence 7 they have enough powers to be fully combat ready. The progression is steady until sequence 4, which is the breakpoint for large scale powers and becoming strong enough to kill anyone lower than you in a fair fight. And of course it keeps progressing from there as well.

Again, clowns don't get superhuman defenses. If they did then they would just facetank bullets instead of dodging. Sequence 9 and 8 are human enough to be easily killed by guns and need to combine their powers with cunning to best normal foes with ease instead of just rushing in, with probably the exception of warrior because that's the whole point of that pathway.

Personally I don't think there's any wasted writing in lotm except in volume 2 where Klein thinks about investing in stocks. Everything else has a payoff, whether it be laying out the foundation for future events or simply to give screentime to characters who are later affected in some way later so that you care for them when it happens.
