The Rinnegan design seems so obviously connected to the Pain bodies, and the occurrence of a sort of radio transmission of sensual and behavioral data (something that the Infinite Tsukuyomi giving everyone "Rinnegan" eyes seems to confirm), that I wonder why Kishi ran with that as the design for the master eyes themselves.
