The founder of FedEx died last month and none of his kids went to Memphis. The current CEO of FedEx is a graduate of IIT-Bombay. He has no connection to the university of Memphis, nor does any of the other executives at the company. It appears the university lost its opportunity for FedEx to be their Nike.
Unless Fred Smith left a large gift in his will for Memphis athletics, I'd be very suspicious of if the $200 million actually exists. It's probably some kind of revenue projection combined with booster pledges that aren't real until they're collected.
