Also noticed that modern stadium architecture puts an emphasis on closing the end zones. Maybe by having a small amount of seating, maybe by building an athletic facility, or a video board, but pretty much every new stadium build or large renovation will try to close the end zones off. Having larger seats helps with this for the smaller programs.
The reasons are likely two fold. One is the obvious benefit of trapping noise in the stadium while the other is about perception, where stadiums with an open end look small time. Think it was Coastal Carolina that used to have an open end zone with a bunch of trees behind the fence. Made it look like a rural high school stadium.

Except Colorado, every single team in the Pac 12 won that conference at least once since 1964. In the Big 12's original run (1996-2010) 7/12 teams won the conference. 2 of the other 5 (Baylor and Oklahoma State) plus TCU won the Big 12 after the first wave of realignment but before Texas and Oklahoma left. Iowa State, Kansas and Missouri are the only original Big 12 schools with zero Big 12 titles.

In the B1G all the schools that were members before 2010 have won at least 1 conference title since 1964, then there was Oregon last year winning the first conference title among the newfag schools. Even Mississippi State managed to make it to the SEC Championship game. South Carolina and Missouri have been multiple times. Without divisions, that type of thing probably will be more rare, especially since there are two new "giants" in the conference. I think one of the big reasons I’ve been losing interest in college football is how different the players feel now. Not necessarily how they play, but how I see them.

Ten years ago, when I watched a guy on the field or saw an interview, it felt like I was watching a regular college student who just happened to be amazing at football. When not playing football, he'd be in class (maybe), at keggers, trying to get some cut, chopping it up with the lads. He just happened to be playing in front of 90,000 people on Saturdays.

Now it feels different. These guys have agents, NIL deals, brand managers, social media teams. They’re getting paid, negotiating, and managing their public image like NFL players. I’m not saying they don’t deserve the money. But it changes how it feels to watch.

College football used to have this raw, chaotic, slightly unpolished energy that its losing a little bit each year.

SEC won't consider expansion until their media deal is up in 2033-34. These schools aren't going to take a pay cut to add North Carolina to the fold when South Carolina is the only school who wants to trade a run-of-the-mill SEC school to play North Carolina.

These are the conferences going forward until 2030, when the Big Ten TV deal is up. They'll be the first at the negotiation table, but I highly doubt any ACC / Big 12 school not named California or Stanford will pay the exit fee and jump ship to the Big Ten. Plus, FOX (who controls the Big Ten's TV deal) kept California and Stanford out of the conference in the last cycle.

My guess is that the Big 12 has an edge. The Hateful Eight were left for dead, assumed to destined to be headed to various G5 conferences. Instead the Big 12 reinvented itself. With good leadership, the ACC should be positioned to easily take from the Big 12 and G6 conferences the members it wants. They have a stronger identity and a better history between the members than the Big 12. But they're passive and reactive, both deadly traits in a survival situation. The only hope for the ACC is that only FSU and Clemson leave for the P2. In that case, they might be able to keep the rest of the conference together and avoid a PAC12 repeat. If someone else leaves beyond those two, panic could set in as everyone goes looking for lifeboats. Being in the Big 12 is going to look much better than being in a AAC heavy ACC.
