I did not think that deciding to watch a show my friends were talking about for a change would lead pretty much directly to me trying to work out if I'd even have room for a PGU Nu.
And like you pretty much said, AU shows ultimately have two jobs. One is to be popular in their own right, the other is to draw in a subset of viewers to UC and other prior AUs. I started watching WfM after season one had ended and I was halfway through Zeta by the time season two began, so I'd say it did a reasonable job of that second job in at least my case.

It's a crime that we're getting an MGSD Aerial before any other 1/100 scale kits from the show. I'd still settle for Full Mechanics, just give me a damn 1/100 Calibarn.
