For some reason it feels like games stopped progressing visually after 2015.
These past 10 years have been disaster for game visuals. MGSV, Witcher 3, Arkham Knight all look much better than their 2020s equivalents and the real kicker is those game run like a dream while also looking better.
I want to blame global illumination, its supposed to be so much more realistic lighting model but the overall effect it brings is just muddy lighting at the cost of most of your performance and a massive increase in VRAM usage and the other major innovation in the past 10 years was fake frames, fake resolution, AI generation slop.
