Do I NEED Sparkle?

Speaking of male companions.
I have an idea for one; here is some info about him:
He is the biological son of your benefactor he was supposed to be his heir(You are the current heir) but got on the bad side of the goverment while he got off without legal punishment he knew it would be a good idea to leave the capital he now just travels around the country helping people by fighting monsters or whatever.
One of the waifus looks up to him as a big brother, and she practically modeled her personality after him.
He is supposed to be an extremely good fighter but not particularly interested or talented as a leader, with some survival and other more ecclectic skills.

Does he sound ok?
I want to make companions cool but I'm not sure if he comes off as gary stuish.
After all (You) are meant to be the main guy not the companions.
