I've considered adding siege weapons as units for my armybuilder, but am opting against it. Largely as a matter of bloat, but also because several units are hinted at already having (or being) battering rams and so on, and the overwhelming majority of them for the period are easy to make in a matter of weeks or days with the amount of manpower you'll have. The enemies in the lush, halfling-infested south may have a couple dozen magic-fueled hwachas and war wagons in lieu of the usual spellcasters, though.

Old grudges. A lot of enemies, some will be strong. But you can also ally with their enemies and some factions are naturally very aggresive.
Lone Warrior. Kinda shit but it can work with some builds. But I would never pick it.
Age disjunction (old). Being old forever is shit but with that many methods to change bodies or stop aging its not a risk of dying, but rather a permanent debuff

I personally feel it's less severe than Trouble Magnet since it doesn't guarantee the threat are always scaled up to your level or that you run into them frequently. There are ways to mitigate this or use it to your advantage. Plus you can always hide your Aura when not using techniques to mitigate the attention it draws.
There is the option of just getting good and not getting enslaved. You could also have particularly potent allies who can bail you out if you do get kidnapped. Or just get good at escaping when you do get caught. Even signing up out right as an aura slave for your conscription option notes you can always try escaping from a presumably fairly powerful spirit, considering they could afford (you).
With high Alchemy Affinity (and probably some Ceremony skill) your deliciousness could be used as a bargaining chip for making deals with spirits. One off feedings or arrangements that are more favorable than outright enslavement that get you a powerful patron. It's a risky option but it has its uses. You just have to be smart about it.

I think the biggest point of disagreement we have is you seem to feel that just because it makes you a tempting target means anything and everything *will* try to take advantage of you. Cultivation is also more than simply martial arts, magic, magical weapons, or even immortality and gods though. There's also pills, alchemy, magical chinese medicine, magical beasts, and even supernatural cooking practices to consider. Further there is the question of currency. In some settings currency is meaningless, in others currency is artifacts, essence pills, reagents used for cultivation, or spiritual essence itself.

Thousands or tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of years of cultivation - your own energies are your lifespan, your power in combat, your ability to heal, and much more. You could spend a thousand years of your cultivation in a major fight in some settings.

For a more martial arts oriented story I recommend Ever Night (2018) with defined different approaches to magical martial arts and how they conflict.

Spirit Fire Drain Swarm …

Those bugs eat through magic and eat through elemental resistances. They also bring back your magic to you. Take the Lifesteal development ability and your bugs are eating mana and health both.

Drain is also upped to T3. Who knows what it’s capable of at that level.

The actual, I can't call it balance, intent is that which is given versus that which is earned. Baraqu gives his future woman what she has. The Cult allows their initiate the opportunity to take power, if they're strong enough to tear it from the jaws of death. The culture views men and women differently throughout the image, though I'd stress this isn't social commentary so much as one layer of flavor building for the setting, its culture, and its people - with the intent of keeping everything of its time and place.

As to the power of water magic, while it's true I don't do balance, it's also true to say that if I were to redo it I might dial it back however slightly (with note that what people can actually gain with the spark they can obtain in year 1 is not nearly so powerful as they're making out. Further, I'd submit that people drastically overestimate their own stamina, especially those who invested primarily into caster stats). As to fire magic, it's a major component of the setting, and it's not complete.

That said, devastating, world changing, power is not the intent of the setting's magic. This is the real reason I'd dial the water magic back some, it has nothing to do with how it matches up against fire, or other, magics.
