Sonic isn't Ratchet & Clank , Besides it's established since the intro of adventure that it's a modern day setting with modern day firearms, granted with some futuristic mechs and hover cars thrown in here or there.
Besides if Looney toons can manage relatively realistic firearms, So can the Sonic series.
