Alaska is a strategic place, considering the history behind it. During the American civil war, Russia supported the Union, and took the entire Atlantic fleet on a power tour all the way to New York to make the Brits seethe. Actually, Russian warships docked in San Fran too, there was a whole parade that went on that day. Lincoln and Alexander were bros, which is why the czar offered to sell Alaska for so cheap, so the American partners could invade the Brits from the north into Canada if they ever got uppity. Of course, the (((writers))) of history have slandered the deal into oblivion and called it a mistake, desperation, etc. The fact is however that Alaska is a monument to Russo-American collaboration and friendship.
