These guys are different from Tarkir clans because on the original Tarkir, one of the wedge color is dominant over the opposed colors, like Mardu being predominantly red, when white is their wedge color. Dragonstorm tried to 'fix' this by having the new clans based on the wedge color instead (white Mardu), thus robbing the clans of their actual identity in the larger scope of the game.
That said, the theme of these cycles was the wizards of Dominaria uniting their magics against the phyrexians in utter desperation. In Invasion and Planeshift they were just borrowing the ally colors, but by the time of Apocalypse they started going for the enemy colors, producing a lot of interdisciplinary 'heretic' practicioners. So you would think the Invasion block names are more generally correct, since they refer to the relationship between the colors of magic in-universe directly.
