The curious thing is that, iirc, both the comic where its shown as lifting the universe and the comic where it's described as him lifting the Earth were written by the same writer (Pak). But the latter was published later.
Also I think the first time Herc mentioned the Atlas feat in Marvel also depicted it as him lifting the Earth. It also gets even more muddy because Pak ALSO wrote Herc's encounter with Eternals that implied that it was Gilgamesh who performed some of Hercules' labours. And Gilgamesh has also referred to that as lifting the planet. I don't even recall if the plot point about Hercules having faulty memory about which exact labours he performed or not was ever resolved.
