1) evolution isn't completely random, see punctuated equilibrium and epigenetics
2) you are right though that the tendency towards complexity is somewhat dubious without assuming further mechanisms wherein the emergence of more complex forms becomes more frequent over time (such as for instance morphic resonance or the elan vital), something which i personally do
3) even if evolution only "cares" about survival, you can ground morality in survival if you simply locate what is the subject of survival (viz. the socius itself. the link above does this)
with that said i dont really like the argument of grounding morality in orthogenetic evolution. it places too much emphasis on the world just getting better over time. it's all self-congratulatory and erodes the necessity of actually needing to fight everything. put simply, it is boring. the world is full of boring thoughts these days
