In that ova (Venus Wars, pretty damn good) those were the general shock troops by Earth vs Venus so I don't think Earth was giving them top of the line armor. BUT since the Venus defenders were gangsters and mostly had handguns/SMGs it worked perfectly The earth invasion knocked out the military for quite a while. I don't know a lot about 2020 but pic related might be one of the few pics of actual Metal Gear ™. I know RED describes it as Stormtrooper armor too.

Also I should mention that for a while there was Kevlar (SP 7 but SUPER EASY to tech-upgrade to SP8) and the whole draw was that it could be hidden. But then Black Chrome came out with mimic armor (putting LAJ plates into a shirt or jacket) so the one downside to LAJ (looking like a Columbine Shooter freak) was now lost.

Fuggin' kek. I mean LAJ isn't so bad if you think of it as reducing damage by 11/10/9 etc (and never expect to actually block damage). Maybe Kevlar could be made not-crap by giving an evasion bonus (kinda like how various tools like the techscanner gives +2 on all tech skills). Also name of animu?
