Goonsquad edition.
>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.

Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content.

I checked the wiki earlier, you're right. I'm just saying that's what I thought they were before.

On a somewhat related note, would EMP Threading also include glowing neon highlights? I don't think it'd qualify as Light Tattoos since the character in question is a chrome junkie and thier face is mostly metal with a few fleshy bits here and there. Think maelstrom style face chrome, but they're not associated with that gang.

I know the shotgun and handgun tables are similar, but I'd probably go with handgun (especially since it becomes unusable after a certain range). Maybe I'll do what Mike would and see if the FBI stats mention sawed vs sawed-off. Still the goal is to be streamlined so the weapon upgrade would be
>tl:dr
>you're shotgun is now fired with handgun, can be concealed, has a pain in the ass penalty to hit targets
Without getting into the weeds too much. And I guess firing shells would be like using the Militech Crusher so not much difference. Maybe that firing mode wouldn't even have a penalty.

I can't check the tables right now, but maybe just changing the range table (and therefore the DVs) is enough and you don't need to slap a penalty.

So the ranges are pretty much the same until the 100+ meter range (where the pistol is actually more accurate).

Basically my concern was someone (player or NPC) walking up to a target, quickdrawing the concealed sawed-off shotgun (since drawing a weapon isn't an action) and either getting a no-dodge DV13 attack for 5d6 (20% crit) or if they're spicy go for a headshot (DV21, but not entirely impossible for a well-built character even early on). Maybe no aimed shots is enough of a penalty? You can hack down a poor shotgun to make a sawed-off one and you can blast someone in the chest for as little as 100eb, but if you want to get a headshot because your skill is that good you have to get the Magnum Opus (1000eb) or Pop-up Shotgun (1000eb).

I might consider Shadowrun in the future, even though it's the red-headed stepchild of cyberpunk worlds, it seems like. The Pondsmith world isn't bad. There might be an over-reliance on Night City, since that's pretty much the only main location that ever gets any big narrative hooks. At least from the content I've consumed.

I don't feel that way about it. From what little I've played recently, it's alright, granted I'm doing it pbp.
>Complicated stuff
It depends on what system you get into. Driving cars and netrunning can make things more complicated, but you can truncate a lot of that stuff into the realm of imagination. Not everything has to be a complicated math problem played out on grid paper.
>you're not gonna find anything in Shadowrun
Most of my love for Shadowrun was sparked by Shadowrun Returns. The music and atmosphere in that game were an entire mood. It blends Fantasy elements and cyberpunk in a fairly cohesive way, and it's an unconventional mixture of elements that you don't see often in media. I think the only thing that comes close is the Netflix movie Bright. I've not even watched it, but from the trailer, it gave me some low-key Shadowrun vibes.

Also, Shadowrun Returns offered up a nice Troll Waifu.

You can also base it on other media and remix it in your mind with a cyberpunk flavor. Any number of crime dramas; Dick Tracy, Sin City, The Untouchables, Scar Face, Boondock Saints, China Town, L.A. I can't vouch for the table top version of Shadowrun cuz I've not played it myself. It may very well suck but I'm not qualified to speak on the matter. I did play the SNES version, it was little cryptic and grindy for my tastes so I dropped it, but the general style of that game wasn't bad. As noted above, the "return" series I really enjoyed. Gameplay-wise it was accessible but not overly easy while also having some of the best mod content available. I believe someone recreated the entire SNES game in that engine.

That old goon Saburo stuck around for almost 2 entire centuries, and given that he was born in 1920's Japan it's not like he's been living in a sterile controlled environment to give him perfect health. I believe that some 2020 books had rejuvenation (probably Chromebook 3/4) tech. What probably ends up happening is that the costs get higher and higher, first it's 1,000eb for a decade, then 5,000eb for 5 years. As your telomeres wear down not even European superscience can save you. I respect the 'ganic hustle but if you want to be immortal fullborg is probably the best way.

>>95796069
Just to add to this excellent post I really enjoyed No Gun's Life and have totally stolen the concept of the sub-brain Cyberware that halves humanity loss when installed for all new cyberware, but is secretly turning that humanity loss into an alter ego AI who steals your body. If you need a session 0 mission the jobs in the core cyberpunk RED book are designed for new players, with stuff like locked electronic doors that are only DV13 to open instead of DV21. You can grab books here https://bit <DOT> ly/cyborganarchist.

Even then, the brain will wear down eventually, and it may struggle if you're more Borg than human (ergo Cyberpsychosis). I'm pretty sure Saburo was aware of this since he stole his son's younger body via soul killer in a few of the 2077 endings, since he couldn't fix whatever else was wrong with his aging body. At some point, you have to go full Motoko and start replacing your brain wholesale if you don't outright bodyswap via soul killer.

Are you asking if the soulkiller you is the "same" you after you go into a new body?

Mentally? I would say yes. Spiritually? I would say no. The original Johnny Silverhand died back in the 2020s. If there is another plane of existence, his spirit has moved onto it. The soulkiller Johnny is just a copy, and Johnny admits to seeing himself as such. This is further hinted at in 2077 during the Zen master gig as Johnny claims he didn't "see" anything during the spiritual journeys V takes. Remember, Johnny can only see what V sees, suggesting that the Silverhand in V's head is a physical copy only.

This gives me hope for characters like Rebecca and David, maybe having some sort of afterlife post flatlining. Whether they go to heaven or hell is another story. I subscribe to Isekai timeline where they're fighting in some fantasy world. Maybe Maine, Pilar, and Dorio are there as well.

In the videogame? The memories aren't real, they go by dream logic. Smasher rips Johnny's arm off and he has it back in the next scene. The raid didn't happen like that anyway, that's just how Johnny remembered it because irl Johnny was a fucking cyberpsycho.

>Isn't the tech high enough to replace or fix parts of the brain?
Maybe in 2077? I started going down that lore rabbit hole earlier. As I understand brains are augmented piecemeal in Cyberpunk unlike GitS where you have big chunks of your brain replaced at a time. I don't believe they've figured out how to prevent neural degeneration for the most part. If you can pay for the right drugs, you can be rejuvenated indefinitely; otherwise, to what extent those treatments affect the brain, I can't tell you. Cyberpsychosis kinda takes the spotlight for mental illnesses in the Cyberpunk universe, so dementia, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer's are either a non-issue or get put under the Cyberpsychosis umbrella of people behaving weirdly due to cyberware-induced mental illness.
>>95803080
For sure, there's some element of him (his memories at least) being an unreliable narrator. Did Pondsmith ever go into detail as to what actually happened, or is everyone an unreliable narrator? I'm sure I've read different sources that say Rouge's interpretation of events is somewhat biased towards how she remembers them. Her story and the story of others got retold so many times that the truth has been lost a long time since 2023.

Lyle Thompson was with the crew during the bombing. As a media, you'd figure there'd be a good record of what happened. Then again, maybe he was a culture vulture in his own right and spun his own truth with some deceptive editing.

There's unreliable and there's clearly made the fuck up. Johnny was a rocker boy, not a solo. His memory is like a bard clearing a fortress by himself while the tank and mage watch in admiration.

Plus, again, he was a cyberpsycho who thought his arm would tell him to kill people. An otherwise sane chip isn't going to start doing that.

My question being, is there a "definitive" source on that Araska bombing incident?

There's also the whole "Is the Adam Smasher in 2077 the same Smasher from 2023?" or is it like a moniker that Arasaka uses for the boogeyman in Night City? Do they have an engram of Smasher that they reload into a new FBC every time he gets himself flatlined? This way, if your crew managed to kill him in a session, it could be plausible in the wider meta-narrative sense that you didn't kill THE Adam Smasher, but one of his many copies. This was hinted at in the ERMK (although some of the lore in the ERMK is kinda dumb).

>Is it the same stream of consciousness?
You mean continuity of consciousness? Arguably, anytime you go to sleep, that gets interrupted.

As another anon noted, SK is an AI larping as an individual using their engram even if the person doesn't realize it or want to admit it. This begs the question of what happens when Soulkiller fully overwrites the host body's brain. Does it become a distinction without a difference? You delve into more philosophical territory at that point.

Something like that, if you get soulkiller'd the you that is "you" isn't moved into a new body. A new "you" that to outside observers, is you, is made. To go back to my analogy the file is copy pasted or in most paces cut pasted, the original doesn't actually move locations yeah?

One of the things I hate about RED is that it isn''t written like "he said, she said", etc. 2020 books has this narrator thing where it is clearly in the views of some gonk, not some omniscient narrator, with some clear breaks from that like Firestorm/Stormfront for the Ref behind the scenes.
In RED, everything is treated as 'canon', no ifs and buts. The issue with Professor could be fixed as him having a section where he goes "i lived a long life already, no need for me to treat my disease" instead of some omniscient narrator going "lol its impossible to treat his disease" when fucking Adam survived from being a literal meatbag and other people surviving from worse brain issues.
The Edgerunners book is slowly fixing that by leaving Adam's state up to the Ref, but that is a lot to fix

Be corporate thugs, break kneecaps for money, when asked why you did it say "for the money".

Do you mean for RED or 2020 (I'm a redlet). But if your crew wants to make a whole session out of non-edgerunner stuff and you're ok with it I say go with it. Basically let the crew get a regular week of therapy (2d6 humanity loss restored) in a single day (because remember they're potentially giving up job time that could pay 1000eb which is enough for the best therapy). I wouldn't even try to punish them. Make the bowling (athletics) DV's around 13-15. The cost of renting a bowling lane would be trivial unless they're in the super poor lifestyles. When in doubt, steal modern stats (every hour is 50eb per game, shoes are 10eb for the whole night). Maybe the best player gets 4d6 HL restored?

This is your chance to introduce NPCs you don't want your players to gun down in a paladin moment. Make your BBEG also a fan of bowling, challenge the players (now opposed Athletics, also feel free to include potential bonuses like a solo's combat awareness on attack rolls being 'feeling out' the course, or mathematics/education for the brainy freak players). Drop lore hints, maybe the bad guy even buddies up to the crew for a potential betrayal of their beliefs for easy power down the line. If you're afraid of undue violence mention that the bowling alley has dozens of automated turrets.

I wish I got moments like this. Once I had players spend 2 hours at an iHop instead of doing the god damn mission, but at least I got to introduce a bunch of fun NPCs who appeared later on (I love the MGS3 shit where today's friends are tomorrow's enemies, but only once did I see a crew non-lethally take out their friends then complete a job).

> Basically let the crew get a regular week of therapy (2d6 humanity loss restored) in a single day (because remember they're potentially giving up job time that could pay 1000eb which is enough for the best therapy)
This is what I like about the new ERK humanity restoration options. You don't have to commit several months to physical therapy if you have a group of chooms to relax and have fun around. It can be as little as one person (maybe even a significant other). Whether it's partying or enjoying some kinda sport that lets players focus on enjoying the company of others, that would reinforce the socialization aspect of humanity loss i.e. empathy for others. Usually, these options are cheaper and faster than traditional therapy, assuming your PC isn't some chronically online netrunner, and even then, I think if they meet other people online and play games or otherwise engage with others online, that'd work for them too.
>Then no one would use therapy!
It's still an option if your PC is an anti-social fuckwit or if the Ref says
>For this specific physical trauma/cyberware install, you HAVE to do this therapy.
With the ERK, there are more humanity loss factors other than cyberware. I don't have the chart in front of me, but losing a person important to you or suffering some other trauma can end up costing you humanity. Conciveably, if your PC has a shitty enough time in the world and a bunch of bad rolls, they could go cyberpsycho without any chrome to thier name. Kinda reminiscent of chuthulu's sanity system. To be fair, in the ERK, everyone has neuralware by default, so it works out for that time period. If you're full ganic, you just go "normal" psycho, I suppose.

What are some fun unique rules/gear to make a boss fight really unforgettable? Adam had his unhalvable armor that heals and Ripper had the nanomachine swarms. I have never used these but I have thought about having a full borg tech with shoulder-mounted turrets (that are net/daemon controlled so they don't cost him actions, also if a player did take control of them they could stop the turrets or shoot the borg's allies but the turrets can't swivel enough to hit him he's not THAT dumb) or another borg fight where the crew gets the bad guy almost down but a tech ninja pops in with smoke and slaps the borg on the ass to fully heal him with Jury Rig. I guess a dangerous environment too, especially if the boss is immune to it.

I think a cyber ninja who has the ability to actually react to player actions could be interesting. every successful dodge you move them some portion of their move value, if a player moves out of cover they can throw those mono shurikens, give them some smoke/flashbang grenades, force your players to roll vs their stealth to spot them, etc. give them a bunch of martial arts moves too.
one thing I wanna try eventually is a 'boss' encounter where the players fight a crew or Boss while being sniped from an unknown angle

Oh yeah I like that. "Boss has C# 16 in all martial arts." This means I would have to actually learn what all of the martial arts do. I think I mentioned this in the last thread but with the new martial arts there are 3 ways to counter attack players (Judo slams them onto the ground, Krav Maga gets a free martial arts attack, and some other martial art would disarm, as far as I know you can use all of these on the same gonk if they trigger all of the requirements).

As a big MGS fan I've been trying to build a sniper battle in my head for a long time. Something like turns are 5 minutes as the players sneak around, make perception checks to spot the enemy or even make decoys. Once they find the enemy the combat begins normally. Homebrew bro made a militech kill team that had a sniper/howitzer challenge I hope this works https://mega.nz/folder/kr0U0a7T#EQ1nQ1lIix37wDd14Y3-SA/file/l393VDrY and I liked that because it reminded me of that one Trigun episode with the sniper. But yeah I feel like this would be one of those 'some players love it, others hate it' situations.

Ah I really do need to read through this DLC front and back. One single borgware can let you roll attack twice and take the better result (but only for brawling, I noticed a few of the martial arts like this one and boxing force you to use brawling which isn't as good as martial arts). But I absolutely love 2 multiple rolls and taking the best result. I kinda wonder how far an NPC with limitless skills can go with the new and old martial arts.

>Should you let a character make some pocket change with the Gamble skill?
Up to your ref. Sounds like any other hustle to me. If you mean straight gambling, I figure streetwise governs it. DV 15 for a street game, DV 20 for a casino. If you're cheating, maybe do a Sleight of Hand or tech roll, respectively.

If you're doing 3-card monte or some scam game like that, Sleight of Hand skill check right off. DV 13 for a low-stakes game, DV 17 for a game with wary players, and DV 21 for a high-stakes game with sharp-eyed opponents.
>Would you do it in week long blocks like a hustle?
That depends more on your PC and the story they're in. If it's expected you'll have multiple free days per week, you could do a weeklong thing. If you're hopping between firefights every other day and doing other gig-related biz on the side, you may have to do smaller gambling sessions on days that allow that activity.

I use the scavenging DLC and crafting as a rough guide for how much a player can earn with skills in a week instead of taking guarenteed hustle money. So if the player rolls an 18 they'd get 100โ‚ฌ$ but if they get 25+ they earn 500โ‚ฌ$, or even 1,000โ‚ฌ$ for an insanely rare 30+, at least not without a lot of work by the player (such as maxing out the skill, complimentary skill, some kind of gear, and even then it's a 10% chance). I've never actually used this for gambling, but when I let players run businesses one of the ways to make extra money is to cook the books (using accounting). Granted I know techs always get their +2 tool, so maybe I'd slightly lower the DV's.

One of my job ideas I'm kicking around in my head would be a big Ocean's Eleven-style heist pitted against David Ling Po (head of the entire west coast Triad operations) and his new casino where security is nearly complete but is having the grand opening early. For the final gig (the actual heist) while the more skilled operatives put the final pieces of the puzzle together for the heist, the rest of the crew can play fun gambling minigames and let each player earn up to a certain amount of cash before David's pit bosses would cut them off from more games. In this case I'd go with >>95829133 for very detailed games or even steal the card tricks from the Yugioh DLC. Thread favorite Rex Royale will be in attendance of course, and maybe some other NPC buddies made over the years.

So far all I've got planned is the crew running a coyote job to get one of the casino's engineers and his family out of Little Chinatown and to Kabuki (David is gonna kill him to keep the secrets safe) and eventually the crew gets the plans and can hit the casino however they like. The idea is that they have to get to the vault, bypass the door (unlock via netrunning, blow it up, or impress me with an even crazier idea like fake an earthquake or fire to make David evacuate the money himself) and then get the cash out but how they set up for that is up to them and whatever resources/favors they call in. A lot like 2020 books like Arasaka Brainworm my goal would be to just provide maps, security and patrols, wall toughness, and let the players figure something out. And some small lead-up jobs to even the odds.

As far as downtime I just keep everything based on weeks because it's too much bookkeeping for me (but I'm a lot more lenient than the book seems to be, like I'll gloss over minor wounds and let players get back to hustling).

Always very happy to see my content put to use.
If I may throw in a few sheckles in - Fire Support power can easily be remade into sniper fire.
My idea was to multiply (by a large extent even) the innate firepower of hardened lazarus killers, that's why their most basic unit, the rifleman whole tactic is to score a nasty headshot.
They were meant to terrify the players, namely I've introduced them in the "welcome to the big leagues motherfucker" mission where they went from 2K payroll (per survivor) to 3K (I know these arent in the corebook, but come on, both campaigns contradict the corebook on payrolls, so I see no reason I should abstain myself from doing so). The jump from gangoons swarming you, dying from clean cuts, screaming for mercy and so on to the people who take action, use tactics (even most basic ones, like drone operator harassing you from cover, machinnegunner spamming supressive fire and riflemen making headshots), flank you and work together is goddamn immense.
The thrill when you can finally let go of baby wheels for your players and just hit them hard AFTER they reached the endgame and are supposed to be ready for it is just chills, man.
Just telegraph to them (If you play fair that is) that they're in for a world of hurt, are up against competent fucks or whatever.

It certainly IS a love it/hate it situation, but that's a problem that should be solved even before session 0, when you assemble your players, you're supposed to you know... be transparent on what exactly you and them want to see in the campaign.

So, after giving some advice and tidbits noone ever asked for I once again dissapear into the abyss. You guys want some content to be homebrewed? I'll have some spare time over the course of next few months.

Forgot to add the thing I was writing about in the first place.
If you want to make it a sniper fire support, I recommend you to use 7d6 headshots, 5 bullet/mag base 18 to hit (not really that easy to hit since it's a headshot) that attack from certain direction, and depending on battlefield there should be covers from this attacks, such as rocks, cactuses, chasms or something in the desert, walls cars etc in the city and such.
I'd also make sniper hide in non obvious space (since hes not supposed to be a retard anyway) like 800m from the battle if possible making him virtually impossible to kill.

I know one of my dream projects would be something like d20 modern's Critical Locations book for cyberpunk red. Essentially a bunch of ready-made set pieces (a hospital, a school, police station, etc) along with a map and tons of lore/rules bits (such as giving the open lock difficulty to get into a gun locker at the police station, or hacking into the central database at city hall). Of course I lack the budget for maps, so the best I could do would be direct linking to cartographer's publically available works (such as giving ideas how to use a police station as a set piece and then at the end posting a list of url's of great police station maps and crediting the artists).

Do people skip death saves in some cases when player character HP gets 0? I'm not talking about obvious ones like getting smashed by Smasher or a nuke blowing up in your face. I mean normal cases like having a grenade thrown at you, getting run over by a truck, being surrounded by security in all directions, and so on.

Smasher was blown to bits, had those bits stuffed into a duffle bag, and they put him back together after the fact. Assuming your brain isn't turned to mush, you can get a whole new body. The real question: Do you want to keep on living if you're walking around in an FBC sponsored by some mega corp? Smasher has fun, but he's on Arasaka's leash. If he ever stepped out of line, I'm sure they could flip a switch and turn him into a pile of scrap at their discretion.

how badly will be combat be broken if i make an enemy have a shotgun with AR range? unsure what changes should i make if players want to loot it to make it playable

There are a bunch of different ways you could use "Expert" skills. One way I've seen them used is that if you have a few points in one, and you're making a skill check to do something that could feasibly fall under the "Expert" skill's domain, getting a circumstantial bonus to your roll seems to make sense.

Also 2020 is a game where Stealth, Hide/Evade and Shadow/Track are all "separate" skills.

I've started allowing skills to overlap, where if you've got points in Stealth and you're rolling "Shadow/Track", I'd allow maybe half of the stealth as a bonus to the shadow/track roll.

Anyone ever run or been in a game where the PCs are all beat or patrol cops?

Started a campaign where the PCs are stationed in the Little Italy precinct. Have some ideas about hooks
>the mob is going through an internal power struggle. Old vs New/Tradition vs Change
>a corporation being the source of a new drug, being distributed through groups of dorphs
>cybered-up psycho crack head being a constant nuisance, running around robbing people, pulling out copper wire and components for his fix
>group of skater teens graffitiing their "art"

Got any stories about good or bad cop campaigns?

Patch notes:
>You now can akimbo rifle/slug and shell with twin cyberoptics. Roll each's DV for the attack and apply the effect and damage from them separately.
>Changed "Explosive/Heavy-Weapons" to "Grenades/Explosives/Flamethrowers" to cover all in the AOE example on page 7, for splitting AOE damage like shells.
>Akimboing Bows require 4 arms, or at least 3 if you akimbo a bow and a different gun.
>Added Bowie-Buddy
>Updated Akimbo Autofire. Body 10 and paired cyberarms are required only for akimbo autofiring two-handed weapons.
>Updated Smartgun Link to both give a bonus to the attack roll, just like Weapon Quality. (Idk why I had you only could benefit from one, that was dumb. Probably trying to please RTGcord or reddit. Lol, lmao)
>Updated a suggestion to treat Akimbo as its own separate 2x skill, which covers akimboing all guns but cannot be used to fire a single gun. You must commit to the Akimbo.
>Updated a small note about the Neuroport covering cyberware instalations.
>Overall better wording, some proofreading and typo/esl fixes (Eu espero.)

This is up my alley. Once my character gets more chrome, I'd like to pull off some hard boiled shit with better accuracy and damage while dual weilding handguns. Maybe some slow-motion dives through the air via sandevistan. We're using the Red companion app, so I may have to convert it to PDF or something to add the extra stuff. Otherwise, I'll have to manually track IP usage.

I was talking about the separate Akimbo skill. I may opt to simply use the halved handgun skill calculation. I'm not sure about the DV scaling at higher levels. I'll need to review the document to consider additional homebrew cyberware to aid in DV calculations.
>kinetic roller blowback wrists. Spring tensioned addition wrist cyberware to cyberarms that sync up to a gun's recoil to mitigate recoil and improve accuracy for both auto-fire and single-fire settings on guns.
Or something like that. I don't want using Akimbo to completely ruin my accuracy to the point I'm better off saving it for weak goons who I won't need a high DV roll for anyway.

I'm pretty sure anon is referring to the shotgun shell spray being a 6x6m (3x3 square) in front of you. But if he misread the rules I can't blame him.

>>95843514
Do you mean shotgun slugs which have this range >>95792027 or the shells variant that only works in front of you? If you think that the slugs are only close range they can get decently far like a handgun. Interestingly, the AR and shotgun are almost inverse in range DV's. So if you had a shotgun who fired Slugs at AR ranges I don't think it would be game breaking. Honestly it might be worse as a shotgun's slugs can't be made incendiary or smart. So you'd be left with an assault rifle that in a pinch could be unloaded and reloaded with shells, that could deal 3d6 to a bunch of enemies in front of you (with the right upgrade your shotgun can switch ammo freely). But if that worried you, you could get an assault rifle with a shotgun frontmount to cover both ranges.

As for shells it is on a long list of rules I misinterpreted because my version just made sense (I used to think the monokatana and railgun could punch through regular Light Armorjack because for 5000eb they fucking better, or that Slide worked on all active Black ICE not just one). Initially I thought the shotgun's shells could drop a 3x3 square of 3d6 death anywhere, you just had to beat that spot's range DV and that also sets the dodge DV (if used by an NPC). So basically a grenade launcher but with much smaller area and half damage but 90% discount (10 bucks for many boolets instead of 100 for an AP grenade). I guess it's an interesting comparison to a heavy handgun that could potentially deal gangbuster damage to a tightly packed group of enemies but only once/enemy. But it could also be a fun homebrew gun, some kind of small vermin crowd control shotgun because when you're fighting hordes of enemies you'll get many inside the 3x3 kill square.

If its not obvious enough, the DV for the Akimbo skill would be the same DV for the gun you're using with that skill.
>Akimboing 2 pistols, roll Akimbo Skill and check for the Handgun DV.
>Akimboing 1 Rifle and 1 Shotgun, Roll Akimbo skill and check the roll against both Rifle and Shotgun DV, if you beat both you deal both their damages.

Hmm. I think I'll have to update the doc by elaborating on that, I hope it doesn't ruin the formating.

Not even for akimboing, autoloaders would be extremely useful in general, especially for autofiring enthusiasts.

I thought I read that if you weren't using the akimbo skill by itself (just using handgun skill) you halve the number of the handgun skill. For instance, my handgun skill is 6, which gives me +13 (with my ref at 7). So I'd do half of that, 6 or 7?

In order to get above DV 13 (pretty low), I need to roll a 6 or 7, respectively, to have a chance to hit. That's assuming I'm not under the effect of a negative debuff. Luckily, I don't HAVE to use Akimbo style shooting if I'm piggybacking on the handgun skill for the calculation (based on your system), so I could theoretically pick and choose where to employ it, but let's assume max level handguns. That's +17 at level 10 with ref at 7. I forget if you said round up or down, but that's only 8 or 9, which is still a modest gamble to hit at DV 13. I'd at least need to roll a 4 or 5. Again, that's assuming the goon I'm trying to shoot isn't behind cover, I'm not affected by anything, etc. etc.

Maybe I misread something. I'm very new to CP in the TT format, so I may also be misunderstanding some mechanics. Feel free to correct me.

I started editing the doc to clarify that you halve the Base Skill before modifiers. So Base of 12 becomes 6 and so on.
But then I started also fleshing out the "Akimbo as a 2x skill" and in the end, it became so much simpler and streamlined that I just deleted everything else and turned the whole Guide to be based off Akimbo as a 2x Skill.
Lol, lmao even.

That means all these patch notes >>95853605 are already outdated to a point.

Tl;dr:
>Akimbo is now a 2x Skill.
>You need REF 8 or Ambidexterity Chip (like how coprocessors let you dodge bullets without ref 8) to use it.
>Akimbo Skill covers akimboing ALL guns together. But you can only use it if you're shooting at least 2 guns at the same time.
>No ROF increases.
>If your akimboed guns have ROF 2, you can roll Akimbo twice in that turn.
>If your akimboed guns have ROF 2 and ROF 1, you can roll Akimbo only once that turn.
Everything else you have to read the damn 2.5 version for:

Conceptually cool, but if I can't get it for "free" at half the level of the handgun skill (I believe that was in the prior version?) it might be too expensive IP-wise. Maybe my ref will dump more IP on me later in the game, and it'll feel more feasible, but I have no clue how things will scale in the long run.

Furthermore, the red companion app doesn't let you add custom skills. Add in my lack of REF and current IP, and these factors are enough to dissuade me from dealing with it at present. If I were more familiar with the game, I could maybe engage with this content, but I haven't even done combat yet.

I'll check with my ref about specific gun fu actions to see what I can get away with homebrew-wise and try to familiarize myself with the more technical aspects, so when I do have enough IP and Chrome I can enjoy it. I'll probably have to feed it to GPT to help me understand things.

This only proves that gamerCHADs know how useful arm-mounted autoloaders are and how weirdly rare they are in fiction. Honestly I think everyone just went 'who needs to reload' and do John Woo combat and outside of shotguns or players who love autofire I don't see a lot of reloading in firefights(except for the few times they forget to reload between fights and try to attack via the app and say 'fuck' outloud and I instantly catch it). However I haven't done any 77 games with the extra ammo costs, so maybe that forces more reloads. Also Golden Chrome GOATed.

>>95863909
That version of the auto-loader only works on a pop-up, so it would probably be more specialized and only holds 1/4 of the mags. Maybe it would be just as useful as a tech-upgrade (as far as I know you'd only tech-upgrade the pop-up, not the weapon, not sure how you can improve a gun you can draw/stow without an action and can be concealed no matter how big it is, I guess the reduced HL is the only one).

Plate IV would be Flak (SP 15) or expensive Metalgear โ„ข (SP 18 but x10 the cost but it's what MAXTAX uses). These armors have a -4 on Dexterity (melee attacks and dodging), Reflex (driving, guns) and Movement but those SP's are nothing to sneeze at. A rifle/shotgun round would beat Flak's SP 15 (by rolling a 16) 70% of the time, but would only beat Metalgear's SP 18 40% of the time and if your armor doesn't get broken you just ignore the attack. Very heavy handgun rounds only have a 10% chance of breaking armor barely, and heavy handguns physically cannot (but if they did roll a crit you'd still get the 5 damage and crit injury). Of course note that even if the gun beats the armor the damage is greatly reduced, so even though armor can degrade quickly (especially with bullshit like acid paintballs) it exponentially improves your wellbeing.

The next category down would be Heavy Armorjack at SP 13 (just ignore Medium Armorjack, if you want SP12 just tech-upgrade Light Armorjack to 12, MAJ is a joke). Regretfully the rifle/shotgun round beats SP 13 (by rolling 14) 85% of the time. But a very heavy handgun (think a big revolver) only beats HAJ 56% of the time (so roughly a coin flip that the attack wiffs) and a heavy handgun (which can be used twice per turn, the rest of these guns are usually once/turn) only beats HAJ 16% of the time. HAJ is a medium armor, so imposes -2 on your Dex, Reflex, and Movement.

Then we have Light Armorjack which is only SP11 (but if you have a tech they can improve this to SP12 with just a day of work, 100eb and basic tech DV17), and is not great. Those rifle/shotgun rounds beat it 94% of the time, the very heavy pistol rounds beat it 76% of the time and heavy handgun rounds do struggle at 37% of the time (but NPC's don't really use RoF2 weapons). But LAJ doesn't reduce your stats, so if you have Reflex 8 you can dodge as a first line of defense. Very Dark Souls.

In that ova (Venus Wars, pretty damn good) those were the general shock troops by Earth vs Venus so I don't think Earth was giving them top of the line armor. BUT since the Venus defenders were gangsters and mostly had handguns/SMGs it worked perfectly The earth invasion knocked out the military for quite a while. I don't know a lot about 2020 but pic related might be one of the few pics of actual Metal Gear โ„ข. I know RED describes it as Stormtrooper armor too.

Also I should mention that for a while there was Kevlar (SP 7 but SUPER EASY to tech-upgrade to SP8) and the whole draw was that it could be hidden. But then Black Chrome came out with mimic armor (putting LAJ plates into a shirt or jacket) so the one downside to LAJ (looking like a Columbine Shooter freak) was now lost.

>>95867968
Fuggin' kek. I mean LAJ isn't so bad if you think of it as reducing damage by 11/10/9 etc (and never expect to actually block damage). Maybe Kevlar could be made not-crap by giving an evasion bonus (kinda like how various tools like the techscanner gives +2 on all tech skills). Also name of animu? I always need new crap to watch, just finished >>95857154

As I understand, unless you start chroming up and have subdermal plates, a reinforced skeleton, and other FBC style cyberware, harder hitting weapons can still punch right through your shit and instantly flatline you if you have a bad dice roll. The average boosterganger with a handgun or a rifle might have a little more trouble getting through, at least.
>>95867985
Yeah, small arms fire won't sting as much with an armored vest, but if someone comes at me with a rocket launcher or some high-end tech weapon that can punch through a tank, I may as well be wearing a t-shirt. That's how I understand the system anyway, and I think it makes sense. Most gangoons aren't going to have access to high-end military hardware (if I'm lucky...), but if I start going toe to toe with corpo security and mercenary groups, my LAJ won't cut it.

It's kinda funny how our lord and savior James Hutt tried to make combat super balanced but also made a poor quality rocket launcher that comes with a free AP rocket only 100eb, hell I could give a non-hardened mook 3 of them (and since the rocket launcher is so worthless and the actual value is the rocket which gets used it's not too hard to say that killing each goon basically gives the crew no loot hehehe). I'm just saying with X mooks (X equals the crew) firing X overlapping rockets... someone is bound to fail an evasion and take 8d6 damage. And thanks at least for the anime idea, it does look pretty funny. Kinda like Nyaruko-San discussing sanity checks

>>95867980
I getcha. So basically Kevlar can be anything (including evening dresses which has come up when I ran Agents of Desire), Light Armorjack (thanks to the Black Chrome mimic kit) can be any shirt or jacket and be totally concealed (but note it doesn't cover the head). Anything more than Mimic/LAJ is noticeable. Except maybe the Skidrow Trenchcoat from Black Chrome which is Flak, but only has HAJ's armor (SP 13) but it's cheaper by 80% and maybe if you have a nice referee could be more fashion and not obviously armor.

As a boss? So a rank 10 netrunner can make 5 net actions/turn, so if they were in an owned NETARCH that was supersized and had 5+ control nodes they could basically make 5 attacks every turn using their own stats while hiding away somewhere out of sight. And if it's a boss location you could probably give a lot of leeway so the crew is constantly getting hit by all 5 attacks every turn unless they come up with some really smart tricks, and since Yakub would figure that out quickly they only get a turn or two of reprieve.

Alternatively Yakub could be a master Tech which would let him break the game, but only if he prepared (it's hard to make a month-long 5,000eb bit of gear in a heartbeat). But he could be both roles! I dunno about 2020 but RED is allergic to NPC's being rank 10 in a role or having Skill Base 18 (Adam Smasher in 2077 is still a rank 9 solo LMAO). But I think the greatest scientist to ever live deserves at least rank 10 in one role.

Given how much modern players love their characters I think it's penalty enough to see their darling boy/girl get Pilar'd, and making them twiddle their thumbs for the rest of the game is just cruel so side NPC's are fine.

As for their power level? That's up to the referee. If the crew seriously needs an Adam Smasher to not die that's fine but make Arasaka either confiscate most of their job earnings or whatever, or maybe even let Adam deploy in his weaker Elvis FBC with less of his insane gear like the rockets and shoulder shotgun. I think Deathwatch had something similar where dead players could come back as a Legion of the Damned to help their companions for the job. Honestly if a player was mad that (after dying) they got to pilot a badass NPC and suddenly the NPC was weakened I would just say it's the NPC's corp/supervisor limiting their gear Other M style. Also this could let you show off Interface 3 and maybe some players will save towards going FBC.

>>95874258
As far as I know in RED at least the guns don't have straps. You need to spend a full action to carefully stow a gun (and then drawing a new gun is a free action I guess). I don't think 'sling' even shows up in the core rulebook except for gunslinger. So if you wanted to include a sling basically it would let someone 'drop' a gun but it remains attached to them. So dropping an assault rifle for a handgun for a close-range enemy would be fine, and when the player gets their shit together (or combat ends) they can re-holster the handgun and then equip the AR (which never got dropped but was just bouncing by their ass).

>making them twiddle their thumbs for the rest of the game is just cruel so side NPC's are fine.
They could always roll a new character. If they do that, do you allow for level scaling to put them back where they were (relatively) before?
>If the crew seriously needs an Adam Smasher to not die, that's fine
I was being a little hyperbolic, I didn't mean Smasher specifically, but an NPC with powerful gear compared to a player that died. If the quantum leaper gains access to higher-end gear and it aligns with the narrative, I think that'd be a cool sea change. Assuming the player wants to do that and there happens to be a high-level NPC in the background anyway.
> Also this could let you show off Interface 3
I'm not sure what that is offhand, but I presume it's some higher-end cyberware? That's kind of the idea I had in mind. Since players die often enough in CP, they may not get to enjoy higher-level content simply due to bad rolls. It'd be cool to let them enjoy said content that they may not otherwise get access to in a normal game and try out unique mechanics. I'm assuming the ref in question isn't pissing eddies and IP onto the crew to the point they already have all the stuff they want and they're trying to maintain some game balance.

Oh no I think I get you. Like I said it's up to the referee to not overpower things but if its a one-time thing it could be fun to let a player test out how awesome it is to be a corpo-drone FBC. When they test out the rolls, the gear, everything they might go back to your players and espouse the virtues of being a corporate puppet!

As for Interface (RED, I forgot that part its Interface RED) 3 that was the 3rd paid Cyberpunk RED dlc that was focused on full body conversions (Interface 1 was drones, 2 was furries, and 4 was martial arts). So yeah I think it would be fun to let players try-out a kitted out borg and when they get their new character suddenly they want to save up 30,000eb to get the best militech borg body.

You're still at a full 6 empathy. If you've gotten any cyberware, each piece takes 2 points off your humanity cap, or borgware takes off 4, which goes down in 10s for Empathy - so at 58 you'd have 5 empathy. At 50 you'd have 5, at 48 you'd have 4. Otherwise, if this is raw? You're missing 2 points of stats, as base is 62. But if yo7 had original 8 emp and it got dropped down to 60something as a result of the above, you're where ya should be.

Good eye, yeah my EMP was 8, but got some cyberware that was kind of mandatory for my character.

I think the DM means, my stats leave me not really good at anything, while I am playing with people that have min/maxed their characters. So in a given scene, I merely stand to the side and exist (mainly combat).

My thoughts are, my job is mainly outside of combat, talking to folks, researching stuff, etc, but the core aspect of this game seems to be combat.

Also the app takes care of the calculations.

That's odd of your referee. You shouldn't need to be a combat god in red (although I don't really like pacifist characters because it's literally hyperviolent cyberpunk, even if you don't believe in violence it's there and coming for you). Some ways to help without having good combat stats
>air pistol with acid boolets, handgun DV's aren't too hard to hit even without a lot of handgun/reflex investment, and is ROF 2
>microwaver (like air pistol but can randomly disable cyberware which can be hilarious and as long as you can hit your target the resist DV is set by the gear)
desu I don't really like the stun baton/gun I guess they're cool as False Swipe weapons but I'm just not impressed
>various grenades like smoke, sleep, poison
>dartgun with fun ammo types (same as above)
>use your action to give a +1 complimentary bonus to your allies (tactics, weapon tech)
>get 1 rank in medtech and and learn to make quickheal and become a combat medic
>use your media rumors to learn about weaknesses for your targets before your job or dig-up blackmail to even avoid combat (this requires a lot of referee work so don't just drop it on them randomly, maybe ask before the game and ask if you can research anything about the job)

Cyberpunk RED is the Bethesda of tabletop RPGs. It sucks but it's modular enough to let GMs make whatever they want without too much work (sorta like how Gambryo/Creation Engine sucks ass but is easy to mod). The price category system was actually a stroke of genius in this regard.

As for rules heavy vs rules lite it wants to be rules lite (which I respect because I think based off old 80's TTRPGs we could benefit from making rules a little more streamlined) but then it gets stuck in the reeds over the stupidest fucking things. The most recent example being martial arts like the Woo Technique. The general idea to make your pistol attacks deal martial arts damage/halve armor but it took almost a full page and had such weird rules like 'make your melee attack as a handgun ranged attack then unload ammo from your handgun for each attack' like holy fuck just say 'make your handgun attack with brawling damage and armor gets halved like from a melee weapon'. Also since the new martial arts had stuff like 3rd attacks the Woo Technique should have had something like 'make 2 brawling/martial art attacks and if both hit roll DV15 martial arts and if you succeed make a free attack with a ranged weapon' because inspector Tequila Yuen used long arms and handguns, not just only pistols you fucking philistines.

Ultimately tl;dr RED is like 25% of a game and they expect the community to produce the other 75% which is really lame. Core RED book was pretty good but it seems like the CD Projekt RED and Netflix money ran out really fast. Luckily we have good anons here to make great content and story ideas.

Really the Woo Technique rules could've been simplified further by just having you roll the Martial Arts check and then fire your handgun with no other strings attached. Follow the prescedent set with Kyudo and the Militech Knife training.

I think where the rule comes undone is the need to explain how Martial Arts/Handgun interact and all the weird restrictions placed on your Handguns that needs a bunch of errata to clear up the confusion.

It's rules light but it seems heavy because it is so terribly, terribly bad written. The formating itself is so bad that it has been repeatedly gatekeeping people from playing it.
I'm not saying you have to be a smart guy to get it, because it's really fucking simple (I even played with somewhat mentally handicapped dude who did not have problem with understanding the rules once he managed to actually memorise them), but you have to have some extent of willpower to punch through the retard tier of bad editing to get to the goods.
Which, and want to stress it, is a real shame because this system has so much QoL like really, and I mean really good lifepaths for character inspiration, pretty funny flavour texts, good take on making the 2020 roles modern, roleplay inducing rules and so on, the stuff you'd expect to find in the rpg.
Once you manage to get past it, and read it two or three times, the system itself becomes extremely easy to modify because it's extremely logical in what it does. If you have decent inteligence and some patter recognision, you're surely to have some fun.
As >>95881608 so eloquently put it, the Cyberpunk RED is the Bethesda of tabletop RPGs. Also I agree with everything they said and I've played this game for hundreds of hours at this point.
It's a shame RTal did not hire anons.

>Rof2, MA success for each add. Max two.

Fuck, misunderstood your post.
It depends on which MAs. Some add an extra attack, while others add it like an extra thing like the Commando disarming an opponent after two attacks with a successful MA check. And then you get confusedly written ones like GunKata.

If the netrunner really passed their checks well, maybe nothing, and/or the user would have to pass their own skill test to even notice the slight and subtle indications.

If the netrunner only barely scraped by, I can imagine tons of windows and command lights and other obvious shit opening and closing and tabbing over etc.

Even for a more squishy character, Red has a ton of survivability. LAJ Meta makes most weapons 2d6 and below ineffective and Bullet Dodging means in most cases you have a chance to avoid damage entirely.

I understand the limit but if a boss is supposed to equal 3 players I think it's insane they only get the same 1/2 attacks. Especially in a system where rolls whiff 10% of the time (I have seen it happen, it's so fucking awful to try and build suspense for a strong boss and the dude rolls 1's). Recent bosses (Adam Smasher and Rippy the Ripper from Forlorn Hope Reborn) show that if they release a Hardened Bosses dlc it could be insane if they ignore their lame balance nonsense. Adam had his unhalvable armor that could heal to full once and Rippy's nanomachines could blanket an area and hit everyone with a very heavy melee attack (and only resist drugs/torture stopped it and who invests in that?).

Some ideas to give a boss more attacks without breaking Jame's precious ROF2 limit rule:
>give them all of the martial arts because Judo, Krav Maga and Arnis all give counter-attack options (and Boxing for ROF3 Brawling)
>include turrets that attack for the boss, basically adding to their attacks but being separate entities or have the boss be a big borg with twin shoulder-mounted turrets controlled by a netarch
>give a single hardened mook (or however many is player count -3), but then use the advanced hardened mook rules to have either 2 more show up next turn, or 1 show up for the next 3 turns
>have a weapon that breaks the ROF limit, but it is basically 'cursed' and requires smartlink and has an evil AI built in that will corrupt any player who claims the god weapon because you KNOW they will take it
>my personal version of dual-wielding isn't as flashy as akimbobro's but basically lets anyone with multiple arms/guns target multiple characters with just a -2 penalty, so a boss with two handguns could shoot two players and even though there is a penalty the boss's stats should eclipse the players easily. Hilariously players use this too and think it's great on weaker mooks, not realizing to a boss they are the mooks.

I'm confused with players vs nets/daemons. If they enter a room with a camera/turret do they have to roll stealth vs the daemon's perception? I know daemons have CN# 14 so would their non-CN# be 12 like a hardened lieutenant? If not that, would it be a set DV like the standard cameras/turrets are Stealth DV15 and the player just needs 16+? I'm just curious if they need to get into a room guarded by a turret is it possible to avoid being seen? Especially since I think according to the netrunning section all daemon stuff goes first and would hold their action until activated so the second a player gets spotted they get lit up.

Also if the camera was only attached to a data node and nothing else it would just be the player's stealth vs the eventual NCPD detective investigating the case right?

Noob Question about Cyberdecks and the Chipset Recoder, Chips, and Programs.

So I am using a cellular deck-shadowdeck combo for light and heavy Netrunning. This is so I can load the cell up with Control Programs so I can operate drones and do "quick hacks". The Shadowdeck would have Intrusion/Stealth/Anti-IC/ IC/ Utility based on what my character can afford.

So there are a fuck-ton of programs that seem useful and I can pick up for the cheap which is preferred over an all custom-list. Not all of them are going to fit on the deck. So with the chipset recorder:

How large can a program be before it cannot be placed on a chip?

If I understand it correctly I would use the reader to swap programs in and out based on MU before a "dive". I am looking at it like an AD&D wizard choosing his spells at the beginning of the day. Is that how it works?

Concerning storing demons: Does a demon MU+all the corresponding programs MU stored accounted as far as MU allocation go?

Flavor question: What's the difference between Daemon and demon, and are demons macros? A demon combines several programs and runs each one separately based on pre-set conditions.
Can a demon be stored in a car and used to turn it on without pressing a button?

I'm not a big fan of the current concealability rules. They're very vague and arbritrary. Personally I treat concealability as a "soft" gm fiat thing rather than a hard yes/no. Weapons with Concealability should just get a bonus to conceal/reveal and let the GM decide what the player can and can't smuggle in whatever clothing they may be wearing.

Besides I think alot of people forget Night City is lawless hellhole so people being visibly armed wouldn't be a big deal unless you were entering a secure area with a strict no arms policy. Even if you get pulled up by the cops, NCPD are notoriously corrupt.

I've been dying to run a media character I've had in my back pocket: a PI who uses rumours and investigation to build up a Report. sinces he's a PI a lot of that would be boring cheating crap but he could investigate local mysteries or find out if someone's business partner is working to betray them. it just feels right for cyberpunk. one of my friends has a media that was basically a corporate media shill who got axed and is obsessed with both fame and revenge, and always wanted to be on camera as much as he wanted to find the Truth. I saw another guy who ran a greenpeace hippie type who had a lot of motivation to Uncover The Truth. so my advice is give your character a Reason to be doing these investigations, and not necessarily a good one. But it really depends on a GM who knows their own world and is active, media is only fun if the GM is active, whereas fixer is only fun if the player is active

If the players are acting out a specific character, then I would say let the world treat them accordingly. If the players are acting on a meta level to try fuck around in the world, you may want to ask them "Are you guys wanting a shitpost campagin or are you taking this seriously?" Usually, there's at least one "cool headed" PC who should speak up and say "chill guys, we don't need to piss off the fixer". If all your players characters are behaving like retards maybe it's time they get pilar'd?

One of my characters has a tiff with the fixer they're working for due to a mistake on the fixer's part, which resulted in my character and some of their friends getting hurt. Logically, as the player, I know it's not the fixer's direct fault, and the meta game would be to acknowledge that and simply ignore the fixer's indiscretion. The character's mind took that situation differently and has emotional stakes tied to that event, and wouldn't have that meta-level knowledge that they're in a game and it doesn't matter, so they should blindly do gigs for the fixer.

Are your players meta game fucking with you or playing thier characters to a fault? If it's the latter, let the world react to that, and if it means they get flatlined, that's that

It's not just the GM. The player has to actually engage with the Role for it to be worthwhile. All the other roles aside from maybe Fixer with it's "grease" ability has pretty clear cut bonuses at each level. Rockerboy and Media only get guidelines on what they can achieve which makes players less likely to engage with the Role ability. Having a shitty GM exacerbates this problem, but in my experice players are not sure what to do with Role abilities too.

Would it really kill R.Tal to expand Media and Rockerboy a bit to give them some tangible bonuses that affect the minute to minute gameplay on top of their weird narrative systems that might come up maybe once a session at most?

Gonna be starting a campaign of Cyberpunk Red with my tabletop lads, as GM. The only thing we've been playing for like ten years is World of Darkness (Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, and Changeling), before that it was DnD 3.5 and 5e.

I have experience DMing DnD, but very little with storyteller World of Darkness, and none as GM for Cyberpunk.
I plan on having my world just happening at the same time of the events of Cyberpunk 2077, but just in different parts of Night City. So it'll be possible for my group to meet like V, Rogue, Judy, etc.
I also played around with the idea of making it so instead of Arasaka soulkilling Johnny, that they instead kept him physically alive in some form of torture stasis, maybe have him escape or have the group break him out and wage war against Arasaka. That's just an idea, though.
Any tips for a relative beginner GM?

was reading the akimbo homebrew doc, and i had a question regarding the mismatched rof on page 5. does it that if you have a rof 1 weapon and rof 2 weapon, do they both become rof 1, or do they stay the same, meaning you can shoot the rof 2 weapon twice on top of the rof 1?

Honestly, humanity kinda functions as a sanity meter, akin (but not the same) as something from Call of Cthulhu. You can have other things impact humanity, such as psychological trauma or finding love, and other emotionally significant events.

If you don't want that mechanic, I suppose you could either disregard the stat and dump the extra points elsewhere? At first, I thought I'd read your post as having robot maids, which would be very cool, but if they're just regular human maids, that's okay, I guess, but not as cool.

Empathy is useful even if you don't have a Humanity stat. A more "polite" and "pacifist" version of COOL. The GM just has to make players roll Human Perception and Conversation more.

Do the Blood Razors have any associated tag/logo and gang colors ? I know they like their wolvers and ritual scars from the Media report in the core book but not much else, which is weird considering they're top dogs of the Combat Zone in the 2020s

Maid RPG has sanity loss if your uniform is incomplete, so you start as a pure human/maid but as your uniform gets cut up (either from combat damage or other dickass players) you lose sanity.

I don't think they enacted high taxes on pet ownership until later in the story, so any pet you can get now should be available to source in 2020.

Like a fucking cartoon? The closest I came to anything like that was a cyberpunk CYOA with a robot dog that had a human brain in it. They'd lost their original body, and that was the only body they could get put into, so that's where they ended up.

Before RED the devs could get away with all kinds of shit, but after RED I think they even had trouble getting the Kevlar trademark. They brought in Samsung as Samtung, but no more direct brand mentions. I think this is the fate of most real life businesses since copyright matters now.

In my game kinda like how Infocomp died because of the datakrash (RIP actual good content) I introduced Amazon to my crew as a weak ass nomad transport company that had fallen hard from it's original lofty ideals. But they're still wily and trying to claw back their original market share.

I'd advise against this if your party is aware of Cyberpunk lore at all. Changing shit for the sake of changing it is actually going to remove your players from feeling immersed, more than anything. Your best bet is to try make your campaign feel in touch with the world, going with its flow, not against it. If you're running a 2077 timeline, make sure you get the Edgerunners expansion (just pirate it, the art is literally just screenshots from the anime) because it translates a bunch of mechanics from the game and the lore is focused on 2076. RED is set like 20 years before 2077, which means you have a lot more freedom to make shit up if you need.

Thanks for replying in earnest, buddy.

Not a single person in my group has watched the anime, played the video game, or are really aware of Cyberpunk as a genre outside of Bladerunner. Like I said, it was an idea, but I am playing with a lump of, proverbial, moldable clay that I can basically do what I want with.
Good call on ripping the Edgerunners expansion though. I was wondering how something like Sandevistan would work in tabletop.

>I was wondering how something like Sandevistan would work in tabletop.
It has mechanics for RED but it's just a +4 to your initiative roll IIRC, nothing really major. I think there's one in the Edgerunners expansion that is closer to how it works in the anime/game.

I also homebrewed one a few years ago before the Edgerunners expansion. Feel free to use it if you want. Idea is you need to install a standard Sandy first

EXP Einstein Sandevistan [REQ 8 REFLEX]:

The Einstein Sandevistan, a high-powered variant of the typical Sandevistan, significantly enhances speed, agility, and precision at the expense of user health. It's recommended for limited, strategic use due to its potential aftereffects, which can include fainting, internal injuries, or death.

This cyberware replaces your standard Sandevistan. Upon activation with an action, it catapults you to the top of the initiative order as you enter a 9-second (3 turns) state of time dilation. During this phase, your weapon's ROF doubles and you automatically perform a "Run" action each turn alongside your regular action (an extra "Run" action isn't possible).

After the effect expires at the end of your third turn, you must succeed a DV 15 Resist Torture and Drugs check. A failed roll inflicts damage equivalent to the DV and roll difference, multiplied by 2d6. This damage bypasses armour.

Each use within 24 hours increases the DV by 1. A new 24-hour cooldown starts from the last use, reflecting the increased DV. For example, if activated thrice within 8 hours, you must pass a DV 17 check and wait another 24 hours for the DV to reset to 15.

for 2020? bartmos guide to the net is good if you plan on globe trotting or cyberspacing. solo of fortune 2 is peak for both set dressing and gear porn. night city sourcebook is great for, if nothing else, getting ideas for how the world should feel. tales from the forlorn hope is great for getting ideas for what jobs or short sessions should be like, even if you don't run it outright. other than that it reaaaally depends. the Chromebooks and corp reports are good for gear and corp fluff. protect and serve is good for both sides of the law as it talks about how courts and jail work
home of the brave sucks, I can't recommend it. euro source plus is pure fucking kino but only relevant for eurotrash. pacific rim is so-so and only useful for Asia if that. Maximum metal is not necessary unless you for some reason want to play with tanks n sheet. deep space is kino but, frankly, not useful for actual play as much as I love it. I don't like the fixer book, and the media book was so-so. I don't rate the UK sourcebook either (reads like it was written by a royalist who was coping and seething)
if you're running Red, then get tales from the red for one shots and jobs, hope reborn for what you can easily turn into one shots and jobs, and then look at all their DLC options and scan what interests you plus gunmass and the base building one (mandatory). The Borg paid DLC is preem but you won't need it until your players graduate from preschool

Ubiquity of cameras makes sense from a game design standpoint though; you want players to have to solve being spotted where they don't belong without having rent a cops literally everywhere.

Would giving armor-piercing ammo the same effect as melee weapons (i.e., halving armor SP) mess with game balance in any way? To me, it makes more sense than armor-piercing ammo increasing armor ablation, which, conceptually, feels more like "armor-shreding" than piercing.

Maybe that's how it worked in 2020, but, in RED, all AP ammo does is raise armor ablation from 1 point to 2 points. It's one of the silliest things I've ever encountered in an RPG.

Alright anons Iโ€™m planning on making a various vehicles for RED.
Iโ€™m planning on not only making custom upgrades (based off golden chrome) and then making a catalogue of, say 10 vehicles? 20? That would in one way or another incorporate said new upgrades as well as old ones.
Maybe Iโ€™ll even throw in some rules as a bonus, like restricting NCPD vehicles to nomad access requiring lawman ranks instead of nomad (ie this vehicles is limited to multiclasses of lawman and nomad). Maybe some throw in garbage monsters like punknaught or jury rigged cars.
Do you have any thoughts or ideas or vehicles youโ€™d like to see put in? I remember probably half a year or even longer ago this one six wheeled heavy duty SUV and someone described it so itโ€™s a corpo-whore (an exec wife I presume) vehicle that she uses to only drive from her gated community to private kindergarten and golf courses.
Hit me with your worst anons

She's essentially a genderswapped badboy. It's important to make the distinction between fantasy and reality, though. Enjoy them in the realm of fantasy, the same way you enjoy yandere, hag, or similar fetishized female archetypes. Do not attempt to court them IRL under any circumstances.

It's not just crazy with a bad bitch, it's crazy + a trouble maker. When looking for a waifu IRL, you don't want to court the bad bitch, you want the good girl. You THINK you want the bad btich, but when you have to bail her ass out of jail at 4 in the morning because she assualted a cop while under the influence of various drugs, you're going to realize the bad bitch is not what you want.

Disregard the bad bitch and find a decent girl who won't try to compete with you in a dick measuring contest that you don't even want to play.

CP should take the V20 pill and just revert to what everyone played in the 1990s. Either that or double down on 2077, which is sci-fi actually, not cyberpunk.
RED's setting sucks. They should have focused on 2025, expanding the Deep Space setting, or you know THE AFTERSHOCK.
