My proposal for Carousel of Progress to fix it being "dated and problematic" is to convert the storyline from "general technology" to specifically Disney theme park technology.
If you tried to make a modern scene of general tech what would you even include? "I hear there's this app called DoorDash and I can get a coffee delivered by a stoner in 5 minutes! Back in my day you had to buy keurig cups! And there's this new thing now called 'bitcoin' - lets you use a computer to make money. Hehe, it will never catch on."
Instead they can get away with some self-promotion while staying on theme. Start with like Tiki room bird animatronics, Mr. Lincoln animatronic, matterhorn model as the first steel tube coaster, i think WDW space mountain was the first computer-controlled coaster, to modern day with projection and drone shows.
I feel like this would please the Disney adults who still think they're special and quirky for liking CoP while also giving it more appeal to normies besides "i get to sit down in AC and the cast members wont whine too much if I exit early"
John is basically Walt's self-insert anyway so it would work without being "blasphemous" or whatever people say about Disneyland's Walt animatronic.
