No he's right. The sheer volume of people playing videogames now dwarfs the 90's and 2000's by so much that comparing playerbase sizes for old games just doesn't mean much anymore. Compare old games vs old games, and new games vs new games. This is true for fps, mmo, everything pretty much.
One large contributing factor is the internet is more available in more parts of the world now. A second contributing factor is the proliferation of hardware, especially phones.
I personally didn't really like kf3 when I tried it in the beta.
Also, it's worth mentioning to both of you that when a game is truly bad, it will have fewer players than other similar games. FOr the most part, the average person can smell buullshit, despite the meme that normies will play anything. From what I've observed, normies can and do turn against a game if it's bad. So I'm interested to see where kf3's player numbers do finally land, relative to the other popular coop games like darktide, helldivers, outlast trials, and others. If you want an example, just look at Firebreak's player numbers. It's currently below 100 people. KF3 has some name recognition since people mostly like the first two games, but that's not going to carry it if the game is bad, and you can expect a low player count if that's the case.
