Explain why people are so willing to finish this game?

I still don't know whether I hate or like this game.
On one hand I appreciate its gameplay and its scale, as in the idea of walking sim isn't actually that bad. but I still think that there are more things that you can add to make it even more fun
And on the other hand, I just hate the story, I get the spirit, I get the soul, I get the humanistic element but I also hate tedious and boring it was.
and why the fuck did they remove "tapes", most of the game is literally walking, might as well give the player tape to listen and use that as a way to explore the stories (like mgs) instead of dumping all at once in the cutscenes, ts make NO sense.
