I still don't know whether I hate or like this game.
On one hand I appreciate its gameplay and its scale, as in the idea of walking sim isn't actually that bad. but I still think that there are more things that you can add to make it even more fun
And on the other hand, I just hate the story, I get the spirit, I get the soul, I get the humanistic element but I also hate tedious and boring it was.

and why the fuck did they remove "tapes", most of the game is literally walking, might as well give the player tape to listen and use that as a way to explore the stories (like mgs) instead of dumping all at once in the cutscenes, ts make NO sense.

The only thing this shitshow solidified for me is that Kojima needs to be accepted into Hollywood already.

Not because he would be a good filmmaker or anything but because it would keep him away from video games.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Death Stranding. The gameplay is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of the trigger buttons most of the traversal will go over a typical gamer's head. There's also Kojima's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his writing - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Hollywood movies, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these references, to realize that they're not just films - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Death Stranding truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the meaning behind Amelie's existential catchphrase "Like Mario and Princess 'Beach'" which itself is a cryptic reference to videogame classic, Super Mario Bros. 2. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Kojima's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Norman Reedus tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

>shit this looks interesting but I don't have time to play it right now
>I'll play it later in a couple of months maybe
>game is suddenly 6 years old
Why does this happen every goddamn time. Happened with DMC5, Resi 7/8 and REmakes and Silent Hill 2 Remake is a year old soon too.
Fuck this shit.

I've been saying that since MGS4. That trash doesn't work as a game, a movie, or a narrative in general. I'm amazed it didn't kill his career.

He’s the only big game director that still does weird and interesting things. Even if you hate Kojima, why do you want to get rid of someone you can mock and laugh at?

I loved it.
It's absolutely Zen like gaming experience. A game you can play for multiple IRL days without seeing a single cutscene, without pushing "the plot" forward, if you want.

it essentially mixes RE1 style route and loadout planning, with MGS-like stealth action, and terraforming-like world building aspects.
All while having that neat indirect community co-op aspect, that all perfectly ties to the game's simple yet solid subtext:

World's a better place when people co-operate, we need our silent heroes to keep our shit running and clean.

Zoomer doomer posters never cease to disgust me.

MGS4 was a great game, enjoyed by everyone back in the day. And Kojima's visions work THE BEST in an interactive format; none of his games would work as a movie nor TV series, because you'd miss the player engagement and input aspect, the in-world acknowledging of (You)r efforts in the past and present.

>>713427068
This, but as an oldass gamer, what I find the most weird is that people these days consider his shit "weird and interesting". He's just a representative of THE original, golden era (pre-iPhone) gaming industry; the times when EVERY game was an "experimental" attempt to appeal to a very niche yet passionate target audience, while pushing boundaries of tech and narration.

Not to mention both MGS5 (even in its broken, unfinished state) and Death Stranding absolutely pulverize most of the much more recent UE5 AAA slop when it comes to game art, directing and audio. The amount of interactive, often dynamic elements also outright embarrasses the average Western offerings from the past 10 years.

All that represents some of the most disgusting trash the industry has pushed out.
Luckily, you can easily PIRATE all that garbage, and not feel ripped off.

Death Stranding is one of my all time favorite games. If it clicks for you, it really clicks for you. If not, then play something else. It's absolutely not for everyone. It's the only game in the past 20 years that truly recaptured that feeling of immersion and exploring a world that I felt when I was a little kid.

I'm basically stuck in 1998 when it comes to gaming mentality. Both in terms of what I enjoy and the way I view videogames. They're not a lifestyle thing like you often see nowadays, just an interesting thing to engage with now and again.
The only game I've completed recently was the RE2 Remake and I thought it was mediocre. At first I found it genuinely terrifying but that wore off quickly and it became a chore to play. The original's sense of dread and hopelessness still lingers with me. The noises of the undead in the Raccoon City ambience, the tragedy of the RPD; all of this to this day is fantastic to me.
Since the OG RE2 is probably my favourite game of all time this was a huge disappointment, but not unexpected.

I agree with you, 100%. I adore classic RE and classic SH, and I still replay both of their trilogies from time to time.

I still find something good fun to play and enjoy every passing year, but more often than not, they evoke a similar feeling and vibe as the "golden age" of gaming around the late-90s and early-00s did (for ex: Yakuza 0, Nier Automata, Talos Principle, Signalis, Deep Rock Galactic...) . Sometimes, said games ARE from that era, but I just never played them when they were new (ie. System Shock 2, Thief, Banjo-Kazooie, BLOOD, Fatal Frame....)

The thing is, the industry has quietly changed its skin and tone at least twice since the Y2K. And it's just mindboggling to try to engage with the younger GenZ (and even GenA) gamer kids these days, who do not understand any of the valid, often over-detailed criticism towards all these modern remakes / reboots / spinoff sequels to the old classics.

The grimmest side effect of this modern de-make boom still is the fact that they are essentially erasing the OG games, especially on internet algorithms. Pair this with the fact that many of the OGs are literally not available (legally) on modern platforms, and you see more and more newbies just pick the latest 80 dollar UE5 woke over-shoulder actiongame remake, never having touched the OG.

I will probably never play this game but in a way I'm glad it exists. A hiking simulator that hard-commits to its own premise and is just hours upon hours of slowly walking across landscapes is a stupid concept for a videogame but so avant garde and different that people are probably okay with engaging with it just for the freshness of the experience alone.

My favorite part was when I had to rush back to a place very far away near the end because bad things were happening and Deadman kept stopping me to exposition dump like 4 times. I kept asking myself why he couldn't just tell me while I walked but nope had to stop and have those conversations
