>how walkable is the strip
With decent weather it's perfectly walkable as long as you don't mind walking several miles per day. Mid summer I would not recommend it. Lots of intersections require you to walk back off the strip a couple hundred yards, climb stairs or use an escalator, cross on a pedestrian bridge, then backtrack to the strip again. The properties look right next to each other but often times it's 1/2 mile walk to the closest casino entrance. If it's 72 degrees that's tolerable but this time of year it's 110 and miserable to be outside more than a few minutes unless you're at a pool.
You can walk through casinos to get to the next door property sometimes. That's a lot better when it's sweltering. There's also some free transport stuff like the free tram that connects Bellagio, Aria, and Park MGM. I think Mandalay Bay & Excalibur have a free tram too.
There's also a paid monorail (pic rel) on the east side of the strip which gets a lot of hate but I've used it plenty of times with no issue. The drawback is the monorail drops you off at the edge of properties so you have to walk a long way to get to the strip. IIRC a 24hr unlimited monorail pass is around $16
