The guy handing out the weapons and ammunition to the other mobiks isn't anymore immune to lead than the officers are. The method of keeping dangerous captives in line by giving a subset of them special privileges in exchange for enforcing the system (thus making the subgroup hated and eliminating any risk of cooperation between the two) isn't unique to Russia by any means. The old prison system in the Deep South (picrel) worked like that by using armed prisoners ('trustees') as auxiliary guards, as did the Royal Navy in the Age of Sail, with (enlisted) marines guarding the officers from the (enlisted) sailors. The difference is that the chain gangs were toiling in fields in extreme heat and the sailors living in bad conditions under the constant threat of being flogged, they weren't being deliberately sent off to a guaranteed death *and most importantly* they weren't trusted with weapons themselves.
Only in Russia would a man be handed a loaded assault rifle, told he is about to die a senseless and very painful death, and get called a faggot too and his only reaction will be to salute and shuffle off to get droned.
Even that man's great-grandfather, who was a glorified serf only two generations removed from outright slavery, mutinied and overthrew his Tsar after 1200 days of war. The Russians are currently on day 1254 and the most they'll do is record a video that begins with "Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich..."
