That's not the case, she's literally blind (she can only make out the vaguest outlines of her surroundings). She got blasted in the face with Ether (which unlike the Aether of this game it's a cancerous substance that corrupts anything it touches and turns people into monsters) and now relies entirely on her other senses. That visor only exists to block the Ether that's infected her eyes from spreading to her brain and killing her. The only thing her can eyes do now is detect Ether thanks to the corruption, but she can't actually see said Ether or anything else, her eyes act like sensor nodes that detect Ether and nothing more.
You know it's a common trope in fiction to have a blind character who has all their other senses heightend and making them super-senses allowing them to still fight. See : Daredevil from Marvel. CBU3 could've written something similiar but I guess none of them are familiar with that extremely common trope.
