I think Gilgamesh is cooler but I prefer not to have someone just pop up and kill enemies at random, I'm skipping both.
Degenerator is cheap, I only use it to farm items (like elnoyles to get energy crystals). The Adamantoise can also be beaten by casting reflect on them so their white wind doesn't heal them but after figuring that out I just blasted degenerator.
