The good moments in Opeth are crippled by their gimmick of flip-flopping between clean and harsh parts to feign dynamic or proficient songwriting. I'd pick any of the death-prog Opeth albums over Focus or Absolute Elsewhere, but it's still gateway pseudo-extreme metal that I have less and less tolerance for.
