But a pointless one. The Empire answers to no-one, the rebels finding out about the Death Star was basically a moot point because it was finished.

This is a quirk that I find interesting, because the OT never actually establishes that the Imperials are so willing to turn on each other. Tarkin is callous, but that's Tarkin, Vader kills without concern but that's because that is he role as second only to the Emperor and no-one is able to stop him. Piett actually displays concern and sympathy for Ozzel as he dies, and Jerjerrod asks for sympathy for his men building the second Death Star. Only Tarkin, Vader, and the Emperor are shown to be willing to kill their own.
