Nope, Thunderbirds was and some Japanese folklore and sayings, all put into space. It's also more action based with space dogfights while Albedo/Erma Felna has more ground based combat and is concerned a lot with the space politics and characters. No one in Japan seems to know its existence, even if Usagi Yojimbo does have a small fandom there.
But I absolutely see and have thought about the connection, both are furry military space operas, makes me wished either got a cartoon. It wouldn't be the first time it got referenced in a game either, see >>11869785
