It definitely does feel like autism to get angry over slightly older games being discussed. The definition of retro is: imitative of a style, fashion, or design from the recent past.

What constitutes the distant past? I'd argue that fits games up to 2015 at least. We can nitpick when gaming lost it's "soul" or uniqueness but games of the 7th gen had a unique style that feels retro by today's standards. As for /vr/ the board itself seems funny enough... stuck in the past with older millennials, gen x'ers, and boomers desperately seeking validation. They have to gatekeep in order to convince themselves that their precious NES games (which lets be honest were mostly shit) are worthy of being talked about in current year over anything else.

Short answer? Nostalgia and elitism. Arcade games are the only genre he's good at so he makes himself feel smart by talking about "gameplay density" and other ridiculous shit. I don't know how anyone takes him seriously desu especially considering how selective he is with his criticism. For example he glazed Wanted: Dead and downplayed aspects of the gameplay saying people had a skill issue if they didn't like it but then when reviewing Stellar Blade he called the gameplay hollow.

He just seems like a ragebaiter pseud at the end of the day. Also I find it funny how he seethes about "political takes" in games and how such videos do better in the algorithm over his shit content.
