Dogmatic is opposing chaos and other enemies of humanity by clinging tightly to the imperial creed.

Iconoclast is opposing chaos and other enemies of humanity by rallying your peers and instilling a belief in the human spirit.

Heretical is betraying humanity by embracing chaos.

Iconoclast does not have to be anti-religion, you can still love the Emperor, you just don't adhere to the creed and the law, and you find it distasteful how the Imperium treats it's own citizens. You would rather inspire people and encourage them. It sounds nice on the surface, but the problem with Iconcoclasticism is that chaos thrives when its enemies are lenient. If you are tolerant, chaos laughs at you and takes advantage of your tolerance. So it's being nice now at the expense of long term efforts against the true, real enemy, which is chaos.
Everyone wants to be Iconoclastic because it's human nature to try to help your peers, but 40k as a setting has an enemy faction that thrives when you're nice, so dogmatism is necessary.
