How would you improve romance content in CRPGs going forward? The guy last thread had a point that one of the major issues with CRPG romances are that the protagonist is, in a choice and consequences full character creation game, by design a blank slate. That makes it quite difficult to create reasonable and good romance arcs because you cannot write it with both characters personalities and traits in mind. Which is why JRPGs blow CRPGs out of the water when it comes to romance since they have both a a love interest with a defined personality, and a protagonist with a defined personality, which makes things far easier to write. I do not see an easy way to solve this problem for CRPGs.

Not really, the only time Iconoclast choices finally started having negative consequences was in the Void Shadows DLC. In the base game Iconoclast hands down has the best effects and resolutions to most quests and storylines, with a few exceptions like Rykad.

I decided to try DAO run using a female warden for the first time in my life.
I was thinking about what to do for romance and realised that girls got fucked pretty hard in that regard.
I refuse to ever do any sort of gay or lesbian romance, Zevran has a date with the tip of a sword, that leaves Alistair as the only choice and every path involving him is kind of bad.
First you choose between one of you dying or having your lover impregnate someone else.
Then if you are not human and make him king, you got to deal with the fact that he will need to marry and impregnate a human woman down the line.
Lastly even f you pick everything right by being born as a human or keeping him as a warden you will still need to live knowing that he has a child with someone else while dealing with being almost impossible for two wardens to have a child together.

Officer fits well because the rogue trader is a noble which orders people around, it's also VERY strong once you understand how to use it
But you specifically are made one on the fly and under exceptional circumstances, so you can just be a frontline soldier too

Psyker is not a class, it's an origin that can be slapped on any class. It's very strong, on officer you could be a biomancer or diviner to buff your party, but you get both a biomancer and a diviner companion so there's that.
If you play a more damage oriented character you could do pyromancy, which no companion has.

And say officer because it steps on the fewest toes related to gear your first time through. Your tutorial party has no officer and while you get an officer in act1 she's also a psyker so she's splitting her turns between psyker powers and officer abilities.
I wouldn't recommend being a psyker your first time though. You get 3 by the end of act1 and the gear competition is high. Ability synergies are also overwhelming enough for new players without throwing psyker synergies into the list.
I consider imperial world noble officer to be the canon rogue trader but it can be boring once you get accustomed to things because it's a pure face character.
Having a lot more fun with my current voidborn crimelord soldier.

Because people want romance content. It really does sell games and as an additional bonus, it drives engagement and discussion about the game as well. Even this place discusses romance content and romanceable characters far more than any other subject. Yrliet is mentioned and discussed at least 10x as much as Pasqal is, despite Pasqal being the much, much better written character.

But since most CRPGs will also not deviate from the blank slate, player created protagonist, romance content will remain in its lackluster and barebones state. Basically CRPG developers have painted themselves into a corner on this over the years, they can't remove romance without losing sales and angering a portion of their playerbase, but they can't really make the content good either due to the constraints on how CRPG protagonists are written.

I'm so excited to finish this playthrough and start another. That's how you know a game is truly good. I think I'm going to be a sanctic psyker with officer into servoskull overseer, wielding a staff and buffing my allies.

I also have a coop save with one of my friends and it's fun but it's going at a snail's pace. We're still in chapter 1 after 3 weeks lol.

Yeah I can see why people say act 4 is unfinished.

Just finished crimson tide of tehtyr, a popular neverwinter campaign made by the guy who made the tyrants of the moonsea and doom of icewind dale premium modules.
There's a huge army of orcs and goblins heading towards Tethyr and you sign up as a merc to join the campaign and defend the country. It does a pretty good job of making you feel a part of a bigger conflict. Its cool seeing the huge groups of soldiers gathered at camp or marching alongside you.
The writing is decent though pretty predictable wow the guy with the evil looking portrait and black armor is a traitor, what a surprise.
There's some nods to bg2 which is kind of cool, a lot of the campaign is your army defending Suldanessellar as its caught in between the two armies. It doesn't feel too nostalgia baity though, there's callbacks but its still its own story.
Gameplay was a bit too easy They throw too much op gear at you imo and the enemies don't really keep up other than a couple boss fights near the end. Anything with some fighter levels will prob have an easy time.
Overall it was a fun ride though nothing super amazing. It was worth the 15 or so hours it took to finish.

Speaking of NWN I remember hearing about a NWN2 remake. Was that a fever dream or is it real? I see nothing on steam about it.

I liked that game as a kid but when I tried it recently the controls and interface felt dated. But remakes sometimes update stuff like that.

Tough choice, but the damage bonus on the two single swords is 28% each so I think those are slightly better for that reason.
Her STR bonus is 7 though so the STR bonus to two handed isn't too shabby. And it's not difficult to have the two hander negate all armor since we have lots of armor shreds in the party....

I struggled with Kingmaker on Normal a long time back, though after most of the game-breaking bugs were fixed. It was my first exposure to Pathfinder, and at times I thought Normal was crazy hard, and did some custom settings.
Never actually finished Kingmaker now that I think about it, but I have fond memories of the story I did see.
Anyhow, started WotR on Core and it was a struggle at times but knowing the system helps a ton. Things like "Restoration sounds ok" vs "Restoration is pretty important".
I'm kind of steamrolling on Hard in my 3rd playthrough, but really 99% of that is understanding the mechanics: what's important what's not, is this 'stun' worth trying for on this enemy, what defense of this enemy should I try to target
I don't really have an interest in Unfair but I might try it if I ever do another playthrough (azata or aeon most likely, maybe legend). I think "Normal" is correct for new players and "Core" is good for when you 'get' the mechanics pretty well but also want to just do whatever's cool, and still be challenged.

In fact games should encourage making mercs and different teams and not dissuade from it. I should be able to make my custom squads and send them on missions. Dark Heresy could work like this, with you making your own Acolytes and sending them on missions Xcom style.
Both Pathfinder games should encourage build autism and team building too. Being in charge of Mercenary group in them with strategy mechanics fitting mercenaries would be great instead of large scale kingdom/crusade management which does not fit skirmish games like crpgs

One thing I find refreshing about neverwinter nights is that a lot of the modules are on the shorter side. They're often straight to the point and never really have time to have a dull moment.
Its nice having these short and sweet adventures I can make a character for and run though over a weekend or so when most crpgs take weeks to finish.
