It has a couple of quirks, but the TL;DR is that you use it to guarantee objectives that would otherwise be annoying or dangerous because your retards will never, ever help you do them. Also pick up any yellow stimms you find and hold on to them.

Veteran is really frail without Iron Will active, so you need some way of regaining toughness. Confirmed Kill on its own is not enough. You want to path into Catch a Breath (even though skipping ammo aura would be cheaper) for some passive regen, and likely into Focus Target! for Target Down! to give you even more toughness. You do NOT want to have to use stealth to refill your toughness, even though you will sometimes be forced to.
Always take the +1 ability charge.
The other nodes aren't bad either, especially the damage reduction, but I'd primarily consider the -90% aggro specifically for doing objectives. But none of them are necessary.
Bring a melee weapon that can clear hordes really fucking well. You can't bail yourself out with shout, so something like the power sword is really nice here. BECAUSE you can't really buy yourself much breathing room, I'd avoid the bolter. You're a sitting duck when your stealth is on cd, and likely can't afford the reload nodes anyway.

Out of the presented builds, I prefer the left one because it offers more utility. Grenades can buy you some breathing room, Catch a Breath offers more toughness overall and thus more safety, and Reciprocity + Deadshot make the recon las pretty absurd. Power sword for horde clear and armor, recon las (brown for Deadshot and cleave, but all three have their dis/advantages) for shooting things dead. Dumdum Infernus obviously because killing bosses is important when your tards will wipe if you don't delete them in 10 seconds.

I'm not sure about other weapons. I already like recon las the most, and the skill tree builds into it pretty naturally. I'd definitely avoid boltgun, and as a ranged build, bolt pistol has ammo issues.
