I really do wonder what the significance of Utage's race/blade has to do with the overall lore. Minamoto no Yorimasa killed a nue and shishiou was given as a reward (which is why Utage is a nue that wields shishiou), but I always assumed it was just Hypergryph showing off how nerdy they are...
