the anime had a bittersweet closure, compared to the darker VN ending.
IIRC, the VN had to be rushed/scrapped (yes, that happens a lot with age), so probably lots of stuff are missing/ not polished...

i was reading ANN forums for all the 3 Muv-Luv TV-series, and a lot of people agree that the shows takes itself more seriously than other animes , and it gathered some interest that set apart from the rest...
That's why i think live-action (with good 3D CGI for the TSFs), with no "bait and switch" (TE y MLA with their firsts episodes) might be almost perfect, IMHO.
