it was a My First Anime game at a time when that was extremely popular with a particular demographic particularly in the west, along with Naruto and Bleach etc.
They didn't know how to pander to the west at the time really so it was mostly a fluke on Mori's part which was probably for the best and it was funny when they dropped the dub and pissed off most of their fanbase
