It quite literally is, in the sense that anything that exists, be it in fiction or in the real world, interacts with us through our perception, and the process of perceiving them and understanding them works in the exact same way regardless if they're real objects or just images or even words

If I tell you the word "car" you know what I'm talking about even if there's no physical object itself present here, because we speak and understand though concepts, through abstracts, and things are just an extension of those abstracts.
